Giroux vs. Patrick Kane

TSN's That's Hockey is polling fans on who they'd choose to build a franchise. Kane is great and all but it appears casual hockey fans don't know the power of G.

Help Claude out, will ya?

http://www.tsn.ca/franchisefaceoff/

For the record, voting stands at:
Giroux - 41.3%
Kane - 58.6%

7017 votes cast

Why is Kane so god-damned overrated?

He's a one-dimensional player, but even saying that he's an awesome offensive threat. A lot of casual fans simply look at numbers, more points = more votes. He is nearly a PPG player for his career thus far after all.

Personally I would take Giroux at this point, but I could see why many fans would prefer the more proven forward...even if he is less defensively sound.

It has to do with people's fondness for mullets.

I think giroux has that "excitement" factor when he has the puck or is on the forecheck. that factor gets the fans going, and get the team going. He can change a game with momentum shifts...
and momentum is EVERYTHING in the playoffs, thats why his success is so much more noticeable in the playoffs...

Funny how Giroux is a 2 seed and Kane is a 7.

don't get me wrong kane is a VERY dynamic player (although that goal specifically many here will argue shouldnt have happened)

think about roo in OT against Boston "sudden death breathes new life" -- that was a momentum shift.

I don't think Kane is the ideal guy to build a franchise around.

I have to ask this, for a pool on the franchise faceoff, why the **** are both Kane and Toews up there but not for any other teams?

Seems like you're trying a bit hard to undermine Giroux.

An offense only winger, or a two-way center...hmmm...real hard. Giroux.

We will see if Giroux is really a good two-way center this year. As of now he hasn't shown enough to say if hes good or not.

Id be ready to say he's good based on what we've seen, and the PK...and the effort he puts in (probably the most important part of defense)

But I get what you're saying...id just substitute 'good' for 'great' or 'effective'

It'll be exciting to see how he does with added responsibility, tougher opposition, and more ice time! !

Also consider position rarity, but I don't give the voters that much credit.

He is good at playing along the boards, the forcecheck and seems to have good positioning in his own zone, but he is less than stellar in the neutral zone and can sometimes be slow on the back check.

I say he will have to prove himself this year because he will have to play a different role than last year. Without Richie eating up a lot of the hard minutes and Carter providing good defense, he will have to really show his own.

Kane being a 7 seed is way off. Also, why have every match-up having 2 guys at the same general position, and then J Staal and Tyler Myers?

i originally typed out this long drawn out response but i am just going to say that i felt someone needed to break up the ridiculous homerism on this board. it is unnerving sometimes.

Not saying Giroux = Kesler or Datsyuk defensively, but he doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Kane's goal is overrated. Granted it's clutch as hell, but it's blown out of proportion because of the circumstance. I think the goal was more of Leighton playing it poorly than of Kane firing the perfect shot. He's a hell of a player though. I'd personally take Giroux though.
