I was actually very impressed with Blake's agent and his interview on 1290; sounded very sincere about the situation. Good to hear.

That's hilarious! I retweeted that and added: Less flying and more signing! Looks like my tweet worked

This is amazing. Now we just need to get Bogosian signed, add a faceoff winning centre and we are ready!

I like these numbers, was afraid he'd hold out for more or drag it to arbitration.

I also saw Wheelers tweet.

I read that he is going to available for the media tomorrow morning, maybe he is on his way here.

Could "from the plane" actually mean "from the Jets"?? Maybe it was just a clever hint before the media caught hold, haha!

I like the price, and I liked bringing in Fehr to give him some help and give us some depth down that right side.

I thought a two year deal would mean that he would still be an RFA at the end. (26 years old with 5 years of NHL experience).

Why does it say UFA on Capgeek? I don't like this deal if he becomes a UFA at the end.

His agent said specifically that he is eligable for unrestricted free agency in three years.

Having him for 2 seasons will give us a good look and typically a forward hits his best years at 27/28 which the next 2 seasons will bring. Perhaps Blake can have some good years in the 'peg!

The price is decent and I'm glad we aren't experiencing a player who has said 'I won't sign in Winnipeg' like Bryzgoof-off said earlier this year. (Man I can't wait to boo him when the Flyers come to town!)

I was thinking the same thing. Is he a RFA or an UFA at the end of his current deal?

I think CapGeek.com got it wrong. Blake Wheeler is only 24 now (born 31 August 1986). He has played 3 years in the NHL. When his 2 year contract expires, he will be 26 with 5 years in the league. I believe you have to be 27 or have played 7 years in the NHL to become a unresitrcted free agent.

Excellent contract, perfect term. Sets both sides up perfectly to negotiate a long-term deal if the fit is there.

Good numbers. If Noel keeps an offensive system, Wheeler will be right at home. He's good at cleaning up Little's misses.

I like this signing, now hopefully he can continue to develop and these next two years will be big for both Blake and the Jets

And CapGeek have updated. He is a RFA at the end of this contract. That makes all the difference in the world in this deal. A decent length and value. Winnipeg still had an asset that they can trade should things turn sour and they are unable to come to a deal. If things work out, he can sign another contract at a value that reflects his contribution.

Wheeler's agent was very effusive with his comments about Cheveldayoff. Good to have some confirmation by such a source , maybe quiet some of the naysayers about him and the Jets organization.

See nothing to complain about so far , this is a very good signing in all respects. I could have forseen a troubling conclusion based on Wheeler's past tendencies, glad to see it resolved in this fashion.
