March 4th, 8th, 10th: Isles vs Devils series *The Metro Cup*

There is going to be a three game series between the two and I was wondering...
If both teams were to be competing for the playoffs, we could treat this as if it were to prepare for a playoff series. If most of the good, solid players are healthy and the tough guys are out their, it should be a fun series to watch. I say It should be called the "metro cup"
What do you guys think?

I'm thinking of going on the 8th to the Rock. It would be my first time there, hopefully like you say they are in the playoff hunt.

They also have a back to back with the Devils in Novemember on the 25th and 26th, a home and home, both at 1.

I've been there a few times
Nice arena, bad area, not a lot of fans
Even when they were in the playoff hunt there were not many fans

Yeah someone brought it up in the schedule thread it is really weird not something I remember happening. Maybe someone else knows of this happening in recent history or is this a first for the franchise?

In the AHL, Teams would play three games in three days but not against the same team for all three due to the depth of the rosters
But I don't know why this is on the schedule
But i will enjoy it

I will probably be at the rock game as it is only 20 minutes from me compared to the 2 hours 20mins (without traffic to the old barn)...if u have never been to the rock you will love it. Its a little steep but overall the sightlines are great. The best part of the arena by faaaaar is the food. I have been to almost every arena in the eastern conference and the rock has the best selection of food of the all(buffalo was decent). Go up to the 2nd level and go to the tastes of newark...so many options of great meals.

Newark is a ****hole and some (not all) Devils fans are dicks. I usually go to all the games. It's gonna be a fun year. Hopefully we come out on top this season. Most of my friends are devils fans so, I'm gonna enjoy playing them this year, unless we get man handled.

Devils have a game in between those three so its not a three game series for them (consecutively). Still weird though.

I once read an article by Larry Brooks that I thought was absolutely brilliant. Around Christmas time the NHL should put on a rivalry tournament. Basically you get 10 groups of 3 and for that week or two those three teams play each other twice each home and away, and no other teams. These would be regular season games but you can style em as tournaments and award a cup (sponsored of course) to the team that comes away with the most points between the three teams. So for example, you would have the Ranges, Islanders and Devils only playing each other for two weeks straight, while Eastern Canada is doing the same, as is Western Canada, etc. It would be fun.

If we're anywhere near a playoff spot when that 3 game set starts it will be a moral victory in and of itself.

Nowhere near a playoff spot but this will be the closest thing to a "series", even though the Devils have a game in between.

If the Isles were in it, me and my buddies were going to go. Since they aren't, I'm not.

All I have to say about it is this:

If the Islanders sweep the series, then there can be playoff contention talk without your tongue being firmly implanted in your cheek.

I'm not really concerned in series nicknames.

Found some cheap tickets so if my brother is off from work, we're going.

the scary thing is if we win these next 2 games vs nj, the game on sunday at the garden will be very meaningful.....scary....none of these teams want to claim that 8th spot

Which annoys me because we're one of those teams. They are literally afraid of going over .500.

The Isles can beat the Devils. They can beat the Rangers. Tavares is back to bringing it and Nabby is a terrific goalie. Hamonic is back and guys like Bailey and Okposo are getting on the scoresheet and Cizikas and Ullstrom are bringing youthful energy and solid play to the team. I want them to make this interesting.
