Re-Sign Sharpie

Title says it all.

Now that Bowman has done the most work with UFAs and trades it's time to talk with Sharp (and his agent) about a new contract. Would be great if he gets this done before the camp starts

From an NHL.com article:

Quote:
"I really don't have much to say about it, to be honest with you," said Sharp, who's entering the final year of his current contract – which has a salary-cap hit of $3.9 million according to capgeek.com. "I've stated that I want to stay here. Hopefully the organization wants me to stay, and besides that I'm not really going to focus on it. I'm just going to try and be the best player I can be and be a good teammate and let those things kind of sort themselves out."
I think he'll be back, but I agree that it'd be nice to get it done sooner rather than later. No distractions for Sharp would be great.

It's a matter of when and how much. Ideally anything $5.5 and under for however long a term fits well into our future plans.

A five-year deal worth $27.5 million ($5.5 million cap hit) is fair.

Year, salary:

1. $7 million
2. $7 million
3. $5.5 million
4. $5.5 million
5. $3.5 million

Here's what I got from it:

Sharp wants to stay and he hopes they want to lock him up and he'll adresss the issue once management does with him.

I don't see any reason to rush it. What if he blows his knee out in October? Hopefully he won't...he probably won't...but there's no real reason to rush it that I can think of.

Well, maybe they shouldn't rush it, but Sharp is a character guy. He wouldn't make it a distraction to the team, but you never know what a player is thinking. He may be personally distracted knowing that when the campaign he's currently playin in ends, he will be contract-less. I guess it would be "rushed" to avoid a possible distraction. The other reason would be to get it done early so that any moves made due to the flexibility they have can be made knowing they can fit it with Sharp's new deal. You don't want someone with a fairly large contract coming in and not having room for Sharp. You put Sharp in the core, the future, and make moves that can be fit with Sharp already being in the fold.

I doubt Sharp is too worried about it. Bowman already said he plans to take care of him and considering all the cap space he has saved up along with all of the one year contracts handed out for next year you have to think signing Sharp is a certainty.

Absolutely. We'll ink him to a contract extension sometime this upcoming season.

I think we'll see a re-signing during the season. I don't think Bowman and Sharp's agent has even talked in earnest yet, Bowman's been too busy and I could see the negotiations start once the season is in action.

OK, I like this game...

what if he starts the season on fire and scores 15 Points in his first 10 games and ends the season with Toews and Kane as PPG-Player?

better do it asap

My guess is they would give him a "retire as a Hawk" length contract and a cap hit of no more than $5.5M. At least that's where I'd like the hit to be. I'm not concerned about the length, not with him.

8YRS/40M; 5M per. Make the last couple years around 1M in real money. Worst case scenario he becomes your 3rd line center at the end.

This will get done during the season like the Kane/Toews/Keith deals did.

I agree...

Sharpie's extension was one of the biggest reasons this offseason went the way it did (money wise), so i expect Bowman/the FO expects Sharp to sign BEFORE next offseason

Little to long, prefer a 5-6 year deal, even if the hit goes up to 5.5 per.

Me too but if that's the term, I think he'll want the Seabrook contract and I don't blame him.

Then he will get 6 per instead of 5.7 per?
