Man, if I hadn't read the books, I would have been a bit confused at that episode. Still, awesome setup
Yeah I haven't read the books and there a few times that I had no idea what was going on. I think I've figured it out now, but last night there was some confusion.

They should really do some sort of story sync like amc does with the walking dead to help out people who didn't see the first season or saw it a year ago and have forgot some details.
Wow, that was a great episode. They really did a good job with Joffrey. I think just about every single viewer is lusting for his demise right about now.
I am a little confused about the whole incest questioning about Joffrey now though. Ned uncovers this plot, that very little to no one seem knowledgeable of, he gets killed after saying it was false publicly, and then all of a sudden, every single edge of the kingdom knows that he is illegitimate and the whole truth Dunno how every single camp, banner, and family knows hem is an inbred Lannister all of a sudden.
Either way, that was fantastic. Glad the show is back on.
I thought Ned was killed for conspiring with "Mayor Carcetti" to kill Joffery? I don't remember the incest being made public last season.
I really enjoyed the season opener, not to much to speak of though. More of a prologue. Can't wait until next week.
^^ there's a family tree on hbo's site. Maybe that will help.
Yea that actually helped me a ton, still not 100% though. What happened to Rickon Stark? I can't remember if anything happened to him, or they just don't show him .
I guess the only thing I have to offer right now (After just watching season one maybe 2 months ago) is I love how Dinklage showed up almost at the end of the credits, and now that he's won an emmy and is the most popular guy on the show, he's top billing.
I noticed that too!
All the book references in this thread makes me want to read them. Bought em, never read em yet.
Although she's in a rough spot right now, Sansa annoys me - but even before she got involved with Joffrey. Hope she does something eventually.

There's a reason why Rickon has his own meme
In the books he's only like 4-5 years old or something so is little more than a spectator.
Robb is awesome. Liked the scene with Jaime and Grey Wind.
Loved Tyrion's entrance to King's Landing and the small council.
It's going to be interesting how all the characters and plot lines will get air time. I don't think this episode lingered on characters longer than they should have and we still didn't see Arya (well, not really) and Renley. With the plots always increasing the deeper the story goes, there is going to be a lot to fit in...not much down time in this series.
Ros looked pregnant, I thought.
I have a Q for those who has their books handy (cousin has mine right now)...was the bird in the Small Council meeting actually there in the books? I've read a couple of summaries of Tyrions early COK chapters and didn't see it mentioned, and I can't remember off the top of my head.
Spoil:
I'm just asking because I remember the white raven in DWD epilogue and those of course signal winter. Does another bird get sent before to signal the ending of summer and then the raven sent when winter arrives (or is very close to arriving)...I can't remember

pretty sure the bird makes its appearance in the prologue at Dragonstone.

Yup, you're right thanks!

Now I'm wondering about the discrepancy in time between the raven Cressen has and the raven we see in the DWD epilogue...reading a summary of the COK prologue and the DWD epilogue mentions the ravens mean the same thing...changing of the season...I guess winter was going to hit Dragonstone before Kings Landing

Your forgetting the season in between Summer and Winter....
Also, to the knowledge of the Lannister "acts" being made public. Robb mentions what Stannis did (sending the letters across the Kingdom) to Jamie, as well as Cersei/Joffery hinting at it.

Yeah, makes sense. I made the mistake of the white ravens meaning winter, not simply the changing of the seasons.
Actually kind of lessens the image of the white raven for me. To me, this series has always been about summer and winter. Very long summers to be followed by even longer winters. I've never spent much time thinking about the inbetweens of spring and fall. I think it is almost superfluous...when it's summer and a white raven appears they know summer is coming to an end...and a (likely) long winter is coming. So they go through 10 years of summer...get the white raven...then get another white raven 1 year (?) later...whatever...that's just me being picky and set in my ways though
Thought it was a great episode to start the season. Though in the books I pictured the scene between Cressen and Melisandre much different. In fact, I thought Cressen never even drank the posion, and then still died after Mel did and didn't, which is why that prologue seemed so powerful to me. But I could be remembering it wrong.
IIRC, in the book Mel drank the poisoned wine first, and then Cressen drank it.
Anyone else notice the inconsistencies in the pronunciation of Arya's name? Catelyn says "Arr-yuh" (my preferred and, I believe, correct way) and Cersei pronounces it as if the 'y' was an 'i' ("Arr-ee-uh"). Just my slight petty annoyance.
btw, the second episode was leaked online. Should be easy to find if you're interested.
