Drew Doughty is on his way to my office to sign his deal. He's on the 405 right now so it should be signed by August 1st.

Seriously, how long does it take to give somebody everything they want? Do it Deano.

With what Lewis just signed for, and assuming the rumored cap-hit for Doughty is accurate ($6.5m), that would give us $3.4 million in cap space!!!

For discussion sake, lets say we trade with Burke, my first inclination in a deal like that is whether the Toronto medical staff is competent enough to properly evaluate the players that could be sent our way.

Not legit at all. If it felt like Doughty wasn't going to sign or wanted a king's ransom (literally), then Lombardi should talk to the Preds for Weber and Devils for Parise.

But really, the guy doesn't seem reliable at all. If there was an offer sheet put in, we would hear about it by someone more reliable. ****, Eklund is more reliable than this guy.

Even if it were true, Doughty would never sign it and live our his prime in mediocrity with the Isles.

I don't believe it, but if Doughty were to get an offer sheet, NYI seems like the team most likely to do it.

Easy for you to say, 70 million dollars is a lot of money.

The source is unverified anyways. Even if Doughty signed an offer sheet like that, we would be fine either way. We could easily match, or we could let him go and get 4 very high first round picks, still be absolutely stacked on defense, and could turn around and offer sheet anyone else we pleased like Tavares or Stamkos.

Very interesting if true, Kings can't make a strong run without Drew, but at the same time those 4 1sts would like be top15's and just make them ridiculous with depth . that cap hit of 8.5 is pretty bad though, I'd be iffy on that

apparently someone started a rumor that Isles gave Drew Doughty an offer sheet. No truth to it, am told.
Not that there was any doubt. You will only hear about the offer sheets that are actually signed though. No team is going to let it get out that an offer sheet was unsuccessful. Especially not from some random twitter account.

Excellent point. How embarrassing would it be if the Islanders (or any team) really did offer Doughty tens of millions more than the Kings were currently, and Doughty scoffed at the offer.

Which makes me wonder how often offer sheets are actually tended. I know Jeff Carter was given one, but turned it down to stay in Philadelphia.

I'll be concerned if Stamkos re-signs with Tampa and Drew still hasn't signed. Until then I see an obvious strategy being played by the players and the GM's.

This.
