I think it's a no brainer. The Preds would be idiots just to let him walk. I don't think he will be awarded anything too expensive for Preds. So, I think he will be signed before the deadline comes up.
It may be only a 1 year deal, but who knows if he will want to leave anyways. He really has only gotten a brief taste of Nashville so far, and by this time next year....he could be totally enamored. Lets not forget that Walker was going to be an UFA, and we signed him to a 3 year deal......I expect something similar with SUllivan if management and him want to reup. Its that simple. Teams sign their impending UFAs all the time, so until he signs elsewhere I'm not worried. Lets look at the positives instead:
1.) We have Sullivan for another year.
2.) He is only costing us 3.6 million....hardly the amount which he would have gotten in arbitration (I'm almost certain the arbitrator would have awarded him 4 million).
3.) For only 2 second round picks......we got a 70+ point, complete player.....and not just as a rental.
It says at 6:05 he will be on the air....Honestly, I would just listen to it today. Sounds like they will have the Preds as one of the main topics of discussion which is always good with Pete as one of the anchors.
if someone listens to\listened to the show....please post highlights\what was said...for the benefit of those of us out-of-towners
Not much really. Sullivan has filed for arbitration twice in the past, but never went.....this is his first time to make it to Toronto. Apparently, he read the 50 page brief about him, that they were going to use (I assume)....they called each other. Poile wanted to meet with Sully and his agent in person....Sullivan did not want to be there. Poile insisted, they met, and two deals were put on the table. One was a 1 year deal, the other was a 2 year deal. After talking about it over the night, Sullivan and his agent decided that the 1 year deal would be best for him and the team, and accepted it.
There was a lot of talk about making a fair deal for himself/Preds, and about the CBA overshadowing this years free agency period. He said its unfortunate, and he just wants to get back on the ice/keep Nashville's fan base pumped for playoff hockey. He is a really funny guy, and he sounded very intelligent. I sensed zero negative vibes from him, and he seemed happy to get the contract signed and over with. Hopefully he will reup with us next year
