Eh, he went for the base and ended up spiking him. Honestly it looked more like his knee bent weird.

And speaking of prospects I've never heard of: Varvaro has been great since his call up. But that jack he gifted to Buck was horrible.

Yeah it certainly wasn't an intentional spike. It was a pretty awkward play. He's 0-4 today so I'd bet Heyward gets back in there tomorrow. It's amazing how dependent we have to be on O'Ventbrel, any time someone else comes in with the lead he manages to blow it. That was a BP pitch from Varvaro to Buck. Giving up runs in two straight outings, the quick start seems to be wearing out for Varvaro.

So...Heyward gets himself picked off at first then Bourne falls over. It should be 4-3 or 3-3 with 2 RISP and no outs right now...

EDIT: But an errant throw on Prado's 4th hit brings home Prado!

Yay for the win!

And re: the Murphy injury - the spiking had nothing to do with the injury. You can see on the replay that his knee had already buckled and then Constanza's leg went over the leg of Murphy and spiked him in the calf.

Murphy is just as much at fault as Costanza. He shouldn't have been in position over the bag with his knee. Middle infielders are taught that stuff.

It's about damn time. Our bullpen is going to be so strong from top to bottom when everyone is healthy, especially Moylan.

Really? I don't know what's not to like about him. He's had a positive WAR every year, average RAR of 12.5, career 2.6 ERA, 161 ERA+ (average is 100). The team would greatly benefit having another righty of his caliber in the pen as only Kimbrel has been solid to this points (and Linebrink the ~15 games before he went on the DL but only in low pressure situations).

Vizcaino's first major league action? 4 pitch walk.

Welcome to The Show kid!

EDIT: And maybe a hit batsmen. Not sure that hit him.

It can never be an easy finish. His curveball is amazing for being 20, I can't belive Buck held off on those. Here comes everyday Jonny now to save the day.

And sure enough.

Great to see Uggla first in to reassure the kid.

Yeah, it was a somewhat rocky debut, but the guy's definitely got some really nasty stuff though. Can't wait to see what he can do once he gets his bearings a little more in the league.

I'm glad that Uggla went 3-for-5 tonight. I was sick of some of these asshats belittling Uggla's streak because of the recent string of infield hits.

A hit is a hit is a hit. I'm more impressed he can beat the throw than get a seeing eye single. It shows hustle. Deal with it.

(This of course aimed at detractors and not at you Opeth)

Exactly.

Braves are 20 games over .500 now, yet they're sitting 8.5 games back from Philly.

I'd declare the NL Central race over if the Brewers weren't so damn flaky. They've been playing some damn good ball since the ASB. Five-game lead over the Cards now.

And only a lead of 5 in the WC.

The Phillies could win 110 this year. And it wouldn't shock me at all.

Same here. The NL (and AL for that matter) are pretty top-heavy.

The Braves can pretty much seal up the wild card with good performances against the Giants and D-Backs though.

Win series. I don't care if we sweep, just win series...

And stop losing to the Nationals.

Carlos Zambrano is a ****ing disgrace. I think it's pretty evident that the Cubs are done with him when half the Braves dugout is out and after him and none of them bothered to get up.

What a headcase. Wouldn't be shocked if he didn't finish the year with them, it isn't like they're going to the playoffs.
