He'll only get better.

Karlsson is a magician with his stick and he relies on it defensively as well, it what compensates for his size. Get the puck out, and quickly.

I'm glad there's at least one stat that vindicates what I've been saying about Karlsson's skill at defense.

It's easy to take the puck away alot when it's on the other team's stick more often!

Just look at that list and you'll realize how awful stats like these are in the NHL. There are about 7 Islanders on that list. I.e. the statitician at Nassau gives out takeways like candy.

From other thread:

Takeaways and Giveaways are absolute trash the way they are tracked. It's not that they don't mean anything, it's that they are tracked so inconsistently, the numbers themselves suck.

Example: Atlanta had 600 home takeaways, Pittsburgh had 176. On the road, they had 225 and 268 respectively.

That might be why Big Buff leads the way by a huge margin. Essentially, if those numbers are true, then Takeaways probably don't mean much to winning, in which case, who cares how many you have? If those numbers are false, then we can't gain any insight from analyzing them, in which case, who cares how many you have?

Therefore, who gives a ****? QED.

Its hilarious on here that if some crappy stat that means nothing comes up and it looks favourably on our player people get excited.

If this list was showing that Karlsson gives the puck away this thread would be all about how Cullen is a moron and the stat means nothing.

McDonlad - Byfuglien
Braun - Bieksa
Hillen - Karlsson

Look at that 6 man defense. Good luck scoring on them!

I don't think this really says a lot about Karlsson's defensive ability. I don't know why Ottawa fans keep trying to say he's good defensively when he isn't. He's still young and has a lot of room to grow.

Hope he continues this way of game, and creates more offensive abilities next season. Should be interesting to see who his full time partner will be

We've known for a very long time that takeaways aren't a good measuring stat because it isn't standardized across the league.

People complain about +/- all the time for the stupidest of reasons, this one is even worse.

You don't know why? I posted a bunch of analysis on the subject...

Jesus, it at least says something about defensive ability.

He's had a knack for winning puck battles since he started out. Most Sens fans, to my knowledge, have just been saying he isn't as bad defensively as others make him out to be...there are positives in his defensive game to go along with many negatives. This stat just shows potential...especially after he grows and gains experience.

I said it doesn't say much, not that it didn't say anything.

Karlsson is pretty much as bad defensively as people say he is (in that he's not great, hyperbole seems to be very common on this site so I pretty much automatically assume people are exaggerating 99% of the time.) I know he's our golden boy, but he's going to go through growing pains.
