So with 6.4 mil remaining, say we sign Cally at 4.5, that leaves us with 1.9 to re-sign Eminger (900K?) and then we would have 1 mil to re-sign Prospal. sounds good to me.

if you want the team to block guys like Hagelin and Zuccarello even more then sure. time to let Vinny walk. Great guy and all but I think it's over kill.
Good job!
Resigned your leading goal scorer.
Resigned your leading assist leader.
Resigned the homegrown, american born kid to an affordable 4 year deal
Resigned one of your leading candidates for future assistant captain of the NY Rangers!
Now lets get Cally done and the "Heart and Soul" is back!!!!
You forgot that word Glad Dubi signed before the hearing!
It's DEAD ON where his comps said he should be. Silly that it had to go right up to the deadline to get it done, but hey - at least it got done.
That's how negotiations work. I am sitting in court waiting for the judge to call a case in which I will have my client enter into a plea. We all kind of knew what this plea bargain will be for months, but everyone has been playing games just to try to weasel something a little better. Now that we were supposed to hold pretrial hearings a day before jury selection, we have a deal. Even today, the prosecutor had to go to her supervisor like a car dealer who pretends they can't sell without permission because you are getting such a great deal. I am here since 9:30 and still did not have the case called.

Boy, I can't wait to graduate law school and enter the exciting world of law!
It's the fans who create the drama. Standard negotiating practices have you waiting until the last possible minute to make a decision. I doubt Dubi ever seriously considered declining the offer.
Any time you wait till the last moment, that is the definition of drama. He's not some middle management type where no one cares about what's happening. This is an NHL athlete working a multi-million dollar deal. You don't think he understands the possible reaction or backlash from the fans and/or media? I'd say think again.
It's not like this deal heavily favors the Rangers. No, it's a fair deal for both sides. And if this is what their offer has been, why drag it out? Hopefully someone will be able to fill us in on how it went down.
That's fine. So they gave him a few extra hundred thousand bucks. Works for me. Callahan will probably get 4.5, which is also fine with me. Hopefully for 5 years.
Looks like ol' Brooksie takes another one in the @$$. He's been pounding Twitter with comparable players making $5M+, insinuating that Dubinsky was going to sign for at least $5M per.
I took Brooks' articles to mean that Dubinsky was asking for $5m, wasn't worth Ladd money, and was worth around the low $4m range. He guessed that Dubinsky would pull in the mid $3m range in arbitration. I'm not going to get sarcastic and snotty because I could have read it wrong but man, people look for the smallest opportunity to crucify Brooks around here.

Actually, we have $5,777,166 left (assuming Erixon and MZA make the team).
And we need to leave at least 500k for injury callups and trade deadline capspace.

Yea I guess. I just feel really bad for Vinny. I love the guy and he's such a great character. I wish we could give him a job with the organization. I hate to see him go.
Brooks said that Dubinsky is more valuable than Ladd who just signed a $4.4m deal, but not worth Bobby Ryan, at $5.1m. Title of the article was Rangers wary of $5m for Dubinsky. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/range...mOD8xTjyKlXjFP
Dubinsky may (or may not) have had his heart set on $5m, but with the Rangers going for 1 year on the arbitration deal, another year of RFA and a new CBA looming which could lower the cap and increase the UFA age he probably saw this as a very generous deal considering the potential landscape in 2012.

Still scratching my head about how Brooks writes a column yesterday about Dubinsky asking for $5 mil+, but then tweets this today:

Post has learned Dubinsky arb will be for 1 year. Rangers in at $2.8M, Dubinsky at $4.6M. Hearing this morning. http://t.co/R42PmbW

He probably meant that Dubinsky was "asking" for $5M+ plus in a long term deal, but was asking for $4.6M in the one-year arbitration. That would make sense at least. Dubinsky would ask for $4.6M in arbitration if he realistically expected to get $3.8M-$4M.

Meh. I've negotiate plenty of deals in my lifetime and motivated parties can frequently reach a meeting of the minds prior to the 11th hour. Ladd did. Stafford did. Heck, the NFL and the NFLPA appear on course to reach an agreement in plenty of time to save the 2011 season.
Waiting until the 11th hour indicates someone was trying to wring (or hold back) every last penny or year...

on a one year deal, his AAV would be lower because he's not giving up any UFA years. the longer the term the higher the annual hit. there's no way he would think he could get 5 on a 1 year award.
