Darcy is methodical and patient beyond reason (to a fault at times). You think he woke up today, and thought, "Oh ****, we're over the cap!"

They've known they would go over since before signing Erhoff and always knew how they'd get back under.
Some people..

I am fully aware of how to get the team cap compliant to start the season, believe me.
However, $1.3m in remaining cap space is going to be cutting it close, as recalled players will use up almost all of that.

With the right injury situation, they could be running into problems dressing a full roster every night.

Don't forget injured reserve savings. We will inevitably put players on injured reserve.

You don't save money from injured reserve.
The player that is injured and their replacement count against the cap and only after you've used up all of your remaining space (including banked space) to date do you get LTIR credit.
This should seriously be stickied somewhere, as I've probably had to explain it like over ten times in the past week.

LTIR is also when a player misses 10 games or 24 days in a row, which is not a safe thing assume will happen.
I mean, Connolly isn't on the team anymore..

Everyone repeat after me.

1 way and 2 way deals have no effect on a player's waiver status.

Now repeat that a few more times, and tell a friend.

Also, tell EA to stop making that the case in their NHL games, as that's where I believe the myth comes from.

Exactly.... If he didn't know how things were going to turn out .... He would never have offered the money.

We're set goalie wise -- 2011 - 2012 depth chart as follows:

Miller
Enroth
MacIntyre
Leggio
Knapp - Returning to Miami (OH) for senior year
Lieuwen - More than likely returning to Kootenay for overage season
Eidsness - Returning to ND Fighting Sioux for senior year
Eno - Playing with the Toledo Walleye (ECHL)

Eno isn't under contract, which means if we don't sign him by August we lose his rights. Not that it would be a bad thing...

The contract clearly for Enroth
Ready for two new years
It took longer than expected, but on Thursday came Jhon Enroth and Buffalo Sabres finally agreed a new contract that extends over two seasons and provides over $ 1,350,000.
After prolonged negotiations on a new contract came Buffalo Sabres and Jhon Enroth agree a new contract on Thursday. 23-year-old has spent most of his rookie contract through AHL games in Portland for three seasons. Last winter he got more and more chances to prove themselves in the NHL with Buffalo chose to play Enroth as the star goalie Ryan Miller's actual place instead of Patrick Lalime, who during the season was the one who guarded båsdörren when Miller watched the bag. 14 matches was in the NHL of Enroth, who won nine games and held a zero. Enroth new contract with the Sabres extend over two years and gives him a total of $ 1,350,000, which in total will be about the same amount as he had during the rookie contract - but with the great difference that the new contract is a envägskontrakt and guarantee amounts.

Great deal if those numbers are correct. I was expecting Cory Schneider numbers (around 900,000 per)

Absolutely, even I wasn't expecting that low--and for two years!

I almost wish Regier went up to 750, or even 800 for a third year if that's the case.

Enroth earned what's anticipated to be a significant bump to his US$685,000 salary last season. He was an restricted free agent, whose rights had been retained by the Sabres when they tendered him a contract earlier this month.

General manager Darcy Regier described the signing as being "both important and good."
Quote:
Aside from focusing on talks with Gragnani, Regier said he's also now turning his attention to trim the team's payroll.

Prior to Enroth's signing, the Sabres were already about US$2.5 million over the NHL's $64.3 million salary cap. Though teams are allowed to spend as much as 10 per cent above the cap in the off-season, they are all required to be at or below the cap once the season begins.

Regier said his first option to cut payroll will be through the trade market.

I think concerns over the salary cap are overblown.

Yeah, I suspect he shops Morrisson for a late-round pick, which he might get. Kotalik's a different beast. I see no possible way he goes anywhere but Rochester.

Unfortunately, Regier and Ruff both know the value Hecht brings to this team. Morrisonn + Kotalik is all they need to move. Morrisonn wants out and they probably don't want to carry 8 D-men again anyways.

They don't need to move Hecht to get under the cap if they shuffle the UD somewhere. I only see them moving Hecht if they're bringing in a third-line center who happens to PK.

Good signing. Keeps him there for two years to prove what he can really do over a decent sample size, with about as low a cap hit as anyone could expect. It provides flexibility to be able to trade or resign him after this deal is up, depending on team needs and cap situation.

They also need to fix the junior eligibility crap. Kassian, Foligno, and McNabb were not AHL-eligible going into what would be next season. That sure chapped my hide.
