That he was... But the best he could have done though was to get the Bruins into a scoreless OT in Game Six... and Bernie was not about to let them score that game, so he would have just delayed the inevitable.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Hextall and Lundqvist of NY are the only two goalies to record 30 win seasons in the first 3 years of their career. Plus, Hextall was the Conn Smythe winner in his rookie year, on a losing team.

Its unfair to call Hextall overrated when compared to Parent. Both dudes were great, they just played in different eras. Not Hextall's fault the Flyers ran into the 1980s Oilers.



edit: I realized you may have meant season win record and not all time win record. In which case, you probably have a point. Still unfair to call Hextall overrated though.

Poking my nose in here with my apologies... FWIW: Hextall owns the Flyers Organizational wins record with Bernie second... but the record he was citing was undoubtedly the NHL League single season win record that was surpassed after a few decades by Brodeur, and only after both Overtime and Shootout wins were instituted... When Parent established his record there were no Overtime sessions in the Regular Season. IMHO, an asterix should be entered besides that record denoting the unlevel playing field, or even better yet there should be two separate records... one for each Era -- problem with that though is with all the other records on the books that were established under uneven circumstances, such as with different numbers of games in the NHL Regular season, could then be open for similar treatment.

What makes you think the Flyers would have been up 3-2 going into Game 6? Of course you can't win if you don't score but Cheevers would have made a difference before that.
