Molding him into a complete player is useless?

And how's that Ferrari billing working out for him so far? Maybe if he'd taken in some of the advice instead of acting like a spoiled brat he'd be in a better position.

3 straight 30-goal seasons, and making 5 million a year.....Id say its working out fine.

Not really. He usually provides a good perspective on things, and doesn't overreact and jump on bandwagons of firing the coach like 90% on people on this board. Most of what he says is pretty accurate.

While having no impact on the wins-losses columns?

How's that "working out fine"?

I like the guy but he has not been the guy the B's we're hoping for, and it looks like the same story for the Leafs.

Doug.

I'd say the team around him doesn't help much. He's no crosby. He's not gonna carry a team on his shoulders to the promised land. Burke seems to finally have something almost resembling(sp?) a playoff team. He didn't exactly inherit a dynasty. And as we all know, Rome wasn't built in a day.

The B's knew who they were drafting. He wasn't featured as a 2-way force. I'd blame management for drafting him and then asking him to be someone he isn't.

They tried trading up for Backstrom but McPhee was a dick and wouldn't trade with us.

Can't blame him. They already had the goal-scoring wingers in Ovechkin and Semin. What they desperately needed was a young playmaking center. Not another shoot first center/winger like Kessel.

He was chosen last at the all-star game by his peers. Teammates (ex-teammates) have come out and publicly questioned his loyalty and work ethic.

In order to have that reputation and still have it "work out fine", you need to be a Crosby-like talent. 3 straight 30-goal seasons is nice, but it doesn't make the other crap disappear.

Ah, don`t let it bother you lextune

One guy is caucasian, shows humility, has a ring, seems like a kid who`ll always push himself to be better, will not run out on a city, won`t call a presser at the drop of a hat and the other...................well, you know the rest

I know what you mean. But a friend of mine calls him "Ty-Ty" which is even worse. Makes him sound like a 3-year-old.

I suggest you go watch the playoffs he was in again if you think he competed in every zone.

He had a few goals on a stacked team that was supposed to win and they lost.

As you said the Bruins knew exactly what they were getting when they drafted him. Well they also knew exactly what he was when the traded him.

Out of their price range? Not a surprise he wanted so much and wouldn't give a hometown discount. I wouldn't either if I was rumored to be traded every couple months.

I`ll wager if he still had a year left on his contract that Chia and Co. would still have shopped him around. There was more than a few rumblings of the vet players on this team having serious issues with his committment to working hard, playing a team game and in 3 zones, not to mention internal issues with CJ.

If they thought this kid was too valuable to lose, they would have found some way to accomodate his wants, they didn`t and I have lost zero winks of sleep over it since.

Aaron Ward said it perfect. "If the rink was round he would be a perfect player"

Meaning if he didn't have to go in the corners he'd be even better

Oh I understood what he meant, I seem to recall a Mr. Chara getting in the face of Phil as reported by the Globe or Herald or NESN a few yrs. back too. Let`s face it, as I mentioned, if Chia and Co. thought this team couldn`t live without him, he`d still be wearing a spoked B regardless of his issues.

Clearly this wasn`t just a kneejerk reaction to Kessel, this was well thought out and I am sure after lengthy discussions with all parties who make the decisions, they felt it would be wise to move Phil.

If a player is a tremendous talent, a team can live with his shortcomings (see Semin, Alex). A 30-goal scorer isn't in that catergory. Especially when you're working under a salary cap.

It's interesting that so many of the people with and around the Bruins cited team togetherness as a key factor in their success. It's probably pretty difficult to have that togetherness when one player thinks he doesn't have to work as hard as everyone else.
