Spaling, Halischuk, O'Reilly and Mueller all signed today

http://www.twitter.com/NHLPredsInsider

Sergei Kostitsyn is the only RFA remaining unsigned (cough, Don Meehan, cough)

Was just coming by here to post this. Smart move by the Preds.

Quote:
Halischuk’s contract is worth $1.425 million, paying him $600,000 in 2011-12 and $825,000 in 2012-13 while Spaling’s contract is worth $2.1 million, paying him $1 million in 2011-12 and $1.1 million in 2012-13. O’Reilly’s contract will see him earn $1.05 million in 2011-12 and Mueller’s two-way contract will see him paid $550,000 at the NHL level and $65,000 at the AHL level.

Glad that's over, now just have to re-sign SK and Weber.

Terrific numbers for all, really thrilled about this. Not having to overpay these guys will still leave between 4 and 5 million for a top six forward via trade after Weber is signed (assuming 6-7 million). Poile reiterated yesterday that remains his main goal (outside of Weber).

Kostitsyn is the one everybody wants for next season. So is he a UFA?

He filed for arbitration, so I think signing him was always going to be a slower process anyway. He did indicate that he wants to stay in Nashville, so hopefully, even in the worst case, he'll choose to stay--although it will mean paying more than intended.

Um, Kostitsyn led their team in scoring last season.

Agent-speak on that: "CHA-CHING, BABY!"

SK is the only person that anyone cared about on the list of potential non-qualified guys...how much more could any of those guys that were signed today get as a UFA?

SK's not that great but he's still NSH leading scorer (both goals and points). I see his RFA value being $2.5-3M while his UFA value is likely over $4.5M.

I like SK, but I think you're high on that. I'd guess closer to 2 from Nashville and 3 on the open market

He put up similar numbers to Ville Leino, and you saw the ridiculous contract that he got.

I think Nick Spaling could have easily got 1.5-2 million on the open market. One of the best penalty killers in the league, great faceoff guy, still young with good offensive upside.

Put it this way...I'd not be surprised to see him outscore Joel Ward, who got 3 million bucks.

I'm not justifying it, but this has been a summer of overpayment like never before. If Kostitsyn's on the open market, he'll be no different...especially in the eyes of teams that may have missed out on the initial flurry.

they re-signed Chris Mueller, who is the only one they were really looking to keep. Linus Klasen signed with Malmo last month and was gone anyway -- no interest in playing in the AHL, but not good enough for the NHL. Andreas Thuresson is still up in the air, but it's the Rangers' problem now, as the Preds traded him for Brodie Dupont over the weekend.

If Kostitsyn was on the market right now, give his age and his progression after a single season of being given top six ice time, I think he'd get 5 million the open market.

He broke out much the same way Leino did, and Leino got 4.5 million for 6 years.

I thought if the neutral guy deemed he was not qualified SK becomes an UFA.

So has that hearing been had yet?

Leino's playoff performance probably helped him earn that salary.
