Vinik has "best year and a half of [his] life"

Quote:
A year and a half in to the dream of owning a hockey franchise, Lightning owner Jeff Vinik is ready to say progress has been made.
Quote:
Add a deep playoff run to the efforts and it seems to be paying off with 4,000 new season ticket packages sold so far in the off season, far and away the best in the NHL, he said.

We won the lottery with this guy. Everything you could ask for in an owner and then some.

No way! We need to cut salary because he is furious that he is losing money with the team!

Oh wait...

Is he allowed to own a hockey team and collect food stamps?

According to Toronto media, he is nearly bankrupt will be shopping vinny and stammer to the leafs immediately.

I've been impressed with Vinik since day 1, couldn't be happier with his ownership.

Vinik is a turrible owner because he doesn't spend beyond the cap on ludicrous contracts to humdrum talent. Apparently because that's a metric for success in the NHL. (see Terry Pegula)

He's the best owner in Pro Sports. Thank goodness he decied to invest in this team and he's now a part of our community. Now if we could only get him to sell his stake in the Red Sox and purchase the Rays. Stu could learn a lot from Mr. Vinik.

How? Stu has done just about everything right to make a team on peanuts for salary competitive against the two biggest spenders in baseball.

Vinik doesn't try to guilt fans into attending games while publicly bashing the same stadium he's trying to get fans to come to.

Well i'm sure Vinik wouldn't have ever bought the team if they were in a similar situation as far as stadiums go.

Vinik is a great owner and we're incredibly lucky to have him, or maybe it's just karma balancing out after our previous owners.

I think Stu is doing the best he can in a terrible situation regarding the stadium. As far as guilting the fans into attending the game I think he's been pretty restrained given the frustration he must feel with the stadium and attendance issues.

1) Stu lives in NJ and doesn't even come to his own team's games, playoffs or not.

2) Stu runs his mouth all the time about people not coming to the games he won't even attend himself.

3) Stu isn't as present in the community as Jeff Vinik and his family are.

I like the Rays but I can't stand their owner. Maybe Vinik will sell off his his share of the Red Sox and purchase the Rays in a few years

Lightning at 10,000 full season tickets for 2011-12, CEO Tod Leiweke said. Doubles 10-11 total of 5,000. Ninety percent renewals, 5,500 new.
5,500 new season ticket holders is amazing.

EDIT: Times link: http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/lightn...d-leiweke-says

Stu is in town for roughly half of the teams games and for all of the playoffs. Let me guess, you think Vinik is in town all the time? I'll concede the last part, he could do a lot better in the bay area encouraging growth and fanbase and so on.

I like Stu and i'm glad hes owner but yes, marketing could be so much better in the area, fan/community involvement could be better, and so on. Then again, I don't think the Rays issue is just a Rays issue, its an MLB issue - interest for the game is dwindling, anytime you have guys making almost 30m playing baseball with that many games while the economy is slumping it gives everyone a bad taste about coming out.

Anyways, back to the STHs... yup. Corp sponsorships are way up, too. Great times to be a bolts fan.

I just think the Rays would do so much better if they were actually in Tampa.
