Maybe. But I'd feel a lot more comfortable going into the season with a legitimate top 4, shut down kind of d-man.
I think we're getting low on bullets, though.

I agree. I'd definitely feel more comfortable if we signed a Scott Hannan type player. Maybe Scotty's still got a signing/trade up his sleeve that we're not expecting. Maybe he has a spare bullet he keeps in a mayonnaise jar buried in his background for just such an emergency.

I think everyone will be happy with a shutdown pairing of Methot/Martinek once they prove themselves. I'm honestly couldnt be happier with what Howson has done with the team. Were improved 100%.

Carter was the guy we needed for scoring. If he's on the same line with Nash, it's a scary line. If he and Nash are on separate lines, that's two scary lines.

Just because you don't know Martinek well doesn't mean he isn't legit.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Frankly, I think an Prospal-Brassard-Umberger line is the sort of line that isn't scary yet... but it will be. Oh yes. It will be.

If it wasn't for Dekanich, this would be the perfect offseason.

Yeah but I figured you needed a passer for Nash. Now that you have a playmaker like Prospal it makes more sense to me.

Martinek and Prospal are friends from České Budejovice. That is good...

This. Prospal is awesome. Honestly, I actually wanted him to be the captain over Callahan if he came back for another year.

Usually, he brings in guys who are so far off the board, few if any of us even thought of them. Guys like Novotny instead of this very Vaclav Prospal several years back. The team may or may not be drastically improved, but it should be a lot more entertaining.

Does Prospal only play Left Wing or Center or can he play on the right wall as well?
I think he played right wing in Philla.

I agree, he was a terrible backup last year. He and Mason didn't do any good. He played alot of games and we can totally judge him.

You'll all love him. Not the best skater, but he goes balls out 100% of the time. Great leader and has so much enthusiasm. Just wait for his cele's. If he stays healthy, 60 points is definitely possible.

He played a bit of all the forwards positions here. Mainly wing but I think he's best at center.

Finally, we sign the guy I wanted back in 2003. I remember xGMDM saying we were going to get either Todd Marchant or Prospal. I wanted Vaclav so bad, but instead we got stuck with a one-hit wonder (60pts) on a (then) crappy contract with a NTC.

OT, I love how in the same offseason we sign Marchant to a 5y/19m with a NTC, but we let Ray Whitney walk to Detroit for 4y/13m

Let's see which version of Prospal we get at 36 years of age.

Because Nash is a better passer and all around player than he's given credit for, simple as that. He's not a one-dimensional goal scorer, and I truly think he and Jeff Carter could make some serious noise together.

Neat fact:

I saw Prospal score his first NHL goal, live in Pittsburgh when I was a young lass. If memory serves me correctly, he scored his first two goals that game, but it's been so long I can't remember if it was two or just the one.

Solid signing, should definitely help us until (and after) Huselius gets back from injury. I think this makes us a legit playoff contender, though if we're not, we'll at least have some movable parts at the deadline to shore up some other areas.

Check this lineup out when it's healthy:

Nash-Brassard-Huselius
Prospal-Carter-Umberger
Calvert-Vermette-Dorsett
Mackenzie-Pahlsson-Boll

Not a bad setup at all... and there are alot of players in there that could be swapped up and down. Way to go Scott, we finally have an NHL team!

I know Nash isn't a one dimensional goal scorer. He's possibly my favorite player in the league and the Blue Jackets are 2nd my favorite team, but the thing is, he's better at scoring goals than he is at passing and Jeff Carter is a one dimensional scorer so its better to split them up
