I think Petry, Teubert, and Pitlick make it full time.

PRV - Horcoff(Pitlick if he plays lights out - Hemsky
Hall - RNH - Eberle
Smyth - Pitlick/Gagner - Pitlick/Gagner
Hartikainen - Belanger - Jones
Eager

Whitney - Petry
Smid - Gilbert
Peckham - Teubert
Chorney/Musil

Dubnyk
Khabibulin

Eventually down the road Lander takes over for Belanger or Horcoff(but not on the top line) and Hamilton fills in for Smyth

Not bad you get rid of Gagner and get **** all for him. Or are we getting a 2012 1st from the Isles?

Could take 3 years for RNH to be # 1 center

The only thing honestly stopping him from being our no.1 center right now is weight. And basically nothing else.

Our center depth is probably the worst in the NHL.

Are a lot of you sniffing glue? I see a lot of Gagner, Hemsky, Omark and Gilbert trades with not one NHL player coming back and i would say that these same people are way too confident in our 2nd tier prospects.

For those who say Gagner is gonna get traded and be replaced by our prospects, why do people jump the gun and assume that it will happen. IF gags were to be traded, we should get something decent in return. Please specify.

The more I look at this lineup, the worse it gets. Omark gone and Jones (who would be in his UFA year) gets a promotion? Our 2nd best defenseman gone with Cam Barker in his place? I think Pitlick might be better served in the AHL than pressbox forward in what could very well be his first year as a pro. Also, do you really think Belanger will be out of a regular job in his 2nd year as an Oiler?

The thing is, LW is easily the toughest spot on this roster to crack. Hall and Paajarvi are likely there for a while, Eager just signed for 3 years (though I could definitely see him as a 13th forward before this contract is up), and Smyth might also get another contract from us. Hartikainen is also coming up through the system, and would have to be considered ahead of Hamilton on the depth chart, at least at the moment. Plus, that Petrell guy they signed from Finland could surprise and make the team at LW even though he's listed as a center.

That's just the competition factor. Hamilton himself could probably take a few years just to be ready too. He'll probably turn pro this year, but there's still the possibility he returns for another year of junior (as unlikely as it is). Even if he does turn pro this year, he could very well use more than 1 season in the AHL before he's ready to make the jump. Just like you said, I could see him playing some games this year and next, but I would be (pleasantly) surprised if he made the team full time in the next 2 seasons.

It's going to be very interesting to see how things play out because we will have a lot of prospects that could probably step into the lineup and we also have a bunch of Free Agents to sign.

Here's what we're looking at for players under contract;

Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
Paajarvi - Horcoff - xxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx
Eager - Belanger - Jones

Whitney - xxxxxxx
xxxxxx - Gilbert
Smid - xxxxxxx

xxxxxxxx
Khabibulin

Smyth, Hemsky, Gagner, Omark, Brule, Peckham, Dubnyk, Sutton, Barker, Chorney, Hordichuk will need new contracts. We have prospects like Hamilton, Lander, Pitlick, Hartikainen, Petry that could very well be ready to step in to the lineup full time by then. Now, there will be the draft and Free Agency before the season starts in 2012 obviously, and that's something we will have no idea how it will play out but just for fun what is your early projected lineup?
Hall-RNH-Eberle
Paajarvi-Horcoff-X
Smyth-Belanger-X
Eager-X-Jones

Whitney-X
Gilbert-X
Petry-Peckham
X

Hemsky gone at the trade deadline. Gagner will probably be gone even earlier (if the rumor Gagner+Smid for Bogosian has any legs).
Barker, Sutton, Brule will all be gone. Smyth will be re-signed.

I expect they will trade for a real top 4 defenseman in the course of the year and sign another top 4 guy in the off-season. 7D will probably will be filled from within the system: one of Chorney/ Teubert, or somewhat less likely Marincin, Klefbom or Musil.

I expect they will trade for or sign another top 6RW or top 9RW. Omark/Pitlick may also fill one of the positions. Same goes for 4C (Lander, Pitlick, Vande Velde all have a chance).

Should the Oilers not seriously consider signing Ray Emery on a one-way deal? That, or trading for Nabokov.

Emery on a 1-way at $850K is at worst a good depth signing and some assurance that the Oilers are serious about turning things around. If he or Khabibulin goes to OKC, so be it.

That's 69.5 million dollars in salaries. Damn.

Hall - Nugent Hopkins - Eberle
Paajarvi - Horcoff - Hemsky/Yakupov
Smyth - Belanger - Hartikainen
Eager - Lander - Jones
Hamilton

Whitney - Gilbert
Murray/Petry - Smid
Peckham - Teubert/Dumba
Marincin

Dubnyk
Boozin Wall

I don't see us taking all 3 of those picks so don't freak out, I see us taking one of them depending on our position.

I dont think Omark fits on this team, its obvious.

With those lines Jones fit better with Lander and Hamilton.

Gilberts only gona get picks or prospects(projects) when traded. and Barker has more upside then Gilbert if he gets his game back.

Just because Pitlick and Belanger are sloted on bench doesnt mean they dont get games. with this young of a lineup they could easily run with 5 centers.

Still looks a little shaky in the defensive zone....but if RNH makes the team....that is a legit four scoring lines anyway you roll it.

I'd like to have Hemsky and Smyth back - but it really all depends on performance, contract demands and injuries for this upcoming season. Also might have a few young players step up, so our need for their services is diminished. Let's just enjoy this upcoming season and see where it takes us.
