Unless they start catching on to what we're doing and don't post the headlines early.
It's likely just a formality to get the actual text approved by management before it is inserted into the actual press release. It just saves time to have the layout all ready to go beforehand, so it isn't as if they are actually letting us see any "scoops" before they happen since the devil is in the details of the story!!
"We are very pleased that Richard Zednik has agreed to a long-term deal with the organization," said Gainey. "He is a very important component of our offence who showed a lot of poise and consistency over the past few seasons.
"His determination and will to win were instrumental in the team's success last season."
His new deal calls for annual salaries of $2.3 million, $2.4 million and $2.6 million.
So 7.3 million for 3 years ! BG is the @#%$ing man.
He is the man that's for sure. I haven't been disapointed by one of BG's signings so far, and actually came out happily surprised on more than one. He's truly one heck of a negociator.
IMO Zednik's worth a tad more than that, but I guess he decided not to be too demanding in order to get a long term deal (just like Bonk). I would have been happy with a deal around 3M per (for 2 years though) but this is plain fantastic. 2.5M average for a player of Zed's quality and importance to the team is peanuts.
Now let's keep our fingers crossed for a Kovalev signing and Zednik exploding with 35 goals next season alongside him and Koivu.
Wow, A Savard might've coughed up 3.75M to a guy like Zed, but Gainey was hired because of his experience with personnel moves and signing contracts and boy has he come through. Amazing, so far every signing has been great and if they can save money, even better for the franchise's business.
A new model for the NHL will hopefully help the Habs be one of the most profitable teams in the league. After all, what kind of league's signature team isn't one of its top, in financial terms (look at how lucrative the Yankees, the Cowboys/Packers/49ers and Lakers are). Sign Kovy and we have an offense that can surely improve on last year's total by at least 20. Defense is our biggest concern still (watching replays of last years Conf. SF vs. Tbay will back up that claim). Woohooo! Gainey rules!
