"Oh, Malone MIGHT be available if the offer is right? Sweet, let's make a proposal for him, maybe I can even slip in one of Tampa's best prospects!"

If Malone were available, many teams would be interested I'm sure. Lots of upper echelon teams have lots of cap space.

Sick team regardless of Armstrong being an overpaid 4th liner, but this 4th line could play 3rd line minutes.
TB would be moving him for salary reasons. They aren't taking Komisarek in return.

Thats not to say I wouldn't take him on my team but if I'm TB I'm doing everything I can to keep that team together.
Maybe that works in Toronto where it doesn't matter what the prices are and the games are still going to sell out. In other cities, the laws of supply and demand go into affect, the higher the price, eventually, the lower the demand and the fewer tickets that will sell.

Can't see the Leafs using the balance of their cap space on a player who at this point is redundant because the top 4 wing positions are already filled.

I can't remember where it was, but one of the smaller market teams a couple years ago were saying that it's all fine and dandy to raise your prices the thing you have to watch for is if your team struggles. Lots of the fan base grows as the year goes on and if you aren't doing well all you'll end up with is higher ticket prices and a lot less people coming to the games.

Tampa Bay need young puck moving offensive minded defenseman and young centres with skill and speed, Montreal needs a power forward with grit that performs in the playoffs and size on the wings so both teams win in this situation.
Patrick Wiercioch + Peter Regin?

I misquoted the original quote, that top line you quoted was me, the rest was the guy I was quoting.

Though he is right we do need young puckmoving offensive dmen and skilled centres but prospect centres who are a couple of years out (to replace Moore or whoever)

Offensive dmen are the Lightnings biggest need not only in the NHL but system wide.

So Wiercioch is too inexperienced more someone like Karlsson (obviously Tampa would have to add in that case) but that wouldnt happen anyway! And Tampa has no use for Regin, wouldn't improve our current roster enough to be worth trading Malone.

Now something based around Karlsson/Rundblad would be interesting.

This thread has already touched on salary, ticket prices, Vinik losing "tons of money", and even a **** proposal where we give up Malone and Ashton for an old, overpaid defenseman with declining point totals plus a kid that might be a #4 one day and a smurf with talent.

Might as well lock this up.

If this rumor is true lighting fans what would you be happy with as a return?

and to everybody else who would be interested?
Injured, out 4-6 months plus a NMC for 2 more years. So nothing happening here.

TB should ABSOLUTELY be able to raise ticket prices if you got a tean with Stankos vinny, Stlouis, Malone, Hedman, Roloson you should have to pay a pretty deacent price to see that team perform live.

I missed where someone mentioned a "superstar", besides Stamkos of course.

Our 20 year old defenseman who put up 45 points in 75 games on the worst offensive team in the league. That star.

I guess the word "superstar" has been cheapened if it includes a defenseman with 45 points. But it's not worth discussing anyway, why would Malone accept a trade to Ottawa of all places? He's also likely not being shopped for atleast 2 more years when his NMC becomes a modified NTC.

He's so ********* sick. When Ottawa drafted him back in 08, I turned to my buddy, a HUGE Senators fan, and told him that his team just picked up the steal of the first round. Not too shabby!

If Malone didn't have a NTC he could very well have been gone by now. The Lightning have some quality wingers in the system that won't need to spend a whole lot longer in the lower levels. With players like Ashton, Connolly, Panik and Killorn getting closer and closer to the NHL level, it's going to be interesting to see who's left of Malone, Downie and Purcell in the upcoming seasons. Malone would make the most sense because of his salary, but his NTC could be a significant obstacle.

NTC's and NMC are waived all the time not as big an issue as people make it out to be.
