I hope the Oilers have a dialogue going with another NHL calibre goaltender like Emery or Turco in case they need more insurance in net.
Khabibulin could well be done and it will probably be clear if that's the case after his first 5-10 starts. Considering last season, I'd put the odds at 20% (might be generous) that he's capable of even being an average back-up.
NHL Caliber and Turco? I don't think those two things go together anymore.
Frankly, if the Oilers are looking at a #3 tender option, Mike Brodeur out of Ottawa might not be bad to look at.
So a thread about Khabibulin going to jail morphs into a thread about racism? Yeah...... Not happening on my watch. Anymore of that kind of crap will result in a thread ban and a whole lot more so come on down and be the next contestant on get hit with an infraction by BBO.

Khabibulin started serving his 15 days in jail yesterday. The rest of the sentence (15 more days) he will be under house arrest.
I wonder if hell be in general population or in a separate area? I would assume that he's not in general pop.
Arizona's jail system has a bit of a reputation though does it not? Maricopa County in particular (which I believe is the county in question) seems to not like "coddling" prisoners (I put "coddling" in quotations because that's more their term for it, not one I'd use).

No idea TBH, that said I've never been a fan of having a two tiered jail system, if you do the crime you should suffer like anyone else would.

sure, but in the case of maricopa, from what I have seen, they tend to treat their prisoners generally worse than you'd expect regardless of their crime.
That might just be my opinion though. Their tent city setup in the middle of the desert seems excessively cruel.

if that's the case then issues like suffering heat stroke while serving time would be pretty much eliminated. He'll probably just sit there for 15 days staring at a wall before being released.
Not saying it has to be, but the threat of inmates suffering dehydration or heat stroke just because you don't want them to be cushioned during their prison sentence always struck me as excessive.

Even if he was in the tent city they'd have to provide proper hydration or the ACLU would be suing them.

Excessive for western countries? Sure. The rest of the world? Not so much. Also re: heat stroke read my last post.

Yep, exactly. Virtually no inmate movement in that facility and pretty much in your cell which is best possible scenario for Khabi.
A provision for canteen and money can buy some comforts.
PS its a coed facility so with possibility of staring at someone else..

The tent facility as much as I gather is a different county facility.
yeah, there's 8 total facilities in maricopa, if the menu there is correct. Tent City being its own facility.

Sheriff Joe in my estimation is on the right track. I work in a Maximum Security Institution and I wish we could implement some of the protocols he has enacted there. But up here in Canada we are too much enraptured with the hug a thug mentality. So much so that the average Canadian has no idea what really goes on behind the bars.
