BFBC 2 Multiplayer Connection Issues

Hey Guys,

Just a quick question here about Battlefield Bad Company 2's multiplayer on PS3. It seems the only way I can play a full game online is if I forward my ports. If I don't do that I get booted back to the main menu EVERY game after 1 minute. However, when I do this no one else is in my house can use the internet on their PCs or phones because of it. As soon as I discontinue the port forwarding via my router's online settings, the internet returns to normal.

Is there anything I can do to forward the ports without messing up the household's internet? Has anyone else had these issues? I just started playing this game so. Thanks guys.

Whenever I hear of people having problems with this type of stuff I automatically say it's a bad router.

Why? Because the game is the same for everyone, it's just a disc your PS3 runs. Now it may have something to do with port forwarding but the fact that it disconnects you back to he main screen and also screws up the internet for everyone else, it leads me to believe your router is toast.

There's no reason this should occur barring one of your family members leaving uTorrent open with no up/down restrictions

I would try a new router. I always had problems with Linksys in the past so I decided one day despite problems I had with D-Link in the past that I would give them another shot.

Boy am I ever happy I did. Their routers are sooooo much better now. Will never buy a linksys product again and if I do it'll be Cisco. Cisco just doesn't seem to put the same kind of effort into their Lynksys products as they do with Cisco products.

Seeing as how D-Link has worked brilliantly for me for years now without any ********, I'm sticking with them.

When I port forward the game works perfectly, but the internet is messed. It's a Dlink router about 5 months old. Also noteworthy is that I use a Cat 6 ethernet cable wired directly from router to PS3, so it's far less likely due to the net dropping off the PS3 (which I've had problems with in the past due to signal loss).

So basically it's either port forward and play, screwing everyone over in my house, or leave the net alone and trade it in. It's a shame, from the little I've played, it's a great game.

Thanks for the input though Neo.

Nice. That's a solid setup, but even then if someone is bandwidth hogging it could cause this.

The port forwarding issue happens now and again with PS3 games. I remember my cousin and I (both owning d-link) had to do this for NHL 10.

Now I know a lot of people around these parts are going to recommend against this but I personally don't see the issue. Turn on DMZ for the ip specific to your PS3 and make sure that IP is static. You'll have to play around in your router to do this but if you know how to forward a port this stuff should be cake.

Then you can delete all the port forwards. The PS3 would then be operating without any kind of firewall/router protecting it. I personally am not too worried about some random hacker hacking my PS3 because it's insecure. So I really don't see the big deal with enabling DMZ for my PS3 IP address. Guarantee other people will recommend against it, I also guarantee you though that all of the sudden all your **** starts working.

PS: I also have BFBC2 for PS3 and am a noob, if you get it working and are down to play you can add me. I'm neofury on PSN also

I didn't think to disable the firewall with DNZ, I'll give it a shot. I haven't bought anything off PSN or entered any sort of personal info other than a secondary email addy that I never use for anything significant so I'm not worried about that. I really just wanna play the game without messing around with the household's net too. Thanks for advice.

I'll add you for shiz, I play BLOPS too, you?

I own BLOPS and MWF2 but I play neither. I actually got BFBC2 after I got those games, got sucked in by the hype and was pissed at EA for making a piss poor version of BF2 for the PS2

But I had heard great things about BFBC2 from HF people and decided I'd give it a go. No reason to ever play MWF2 or BLOPS once you get this game working. I don't get how the general population of gamers thinks these MWF or BLOPS games come even close to BFBC2. Of course they all have their ups and downs but man Frostbite is ****ing sick and in BF3 it's going to be an improved version of with a less arcadey game.
