Why not Span in right? That guy has an arm.

Just because its "generally considered" a major pro league doesnt mean it actually is, or that it even deserves to be.

The NBA is a joke league. The T'Wimps are a joke within that joke. Therefore no.

Joe Mauer is our Sidney Crosby. Discuss.

Seriously, good looking yet harmless looking, fairly quiet off the ice/field, incredibly gifted athlete, highly paid by the team and sponsors.

1 career home run at Target Field suggests to me it's not quite an apt comparison. Personality-wise, maybe there's some similarity, but he sure hasn't looked like the elite talent he was in '09. Also I think Mauer's stardom is in large part propelled by being a hometown kid, which isn't a factor for Crosby.

Why the **** did Kubel get benched? I mean, I know the answer––for Thome's home run chase publicity stunt––but he's the best hitter on the team right now. It's like they're giving up.

Twins need to work on situational hitting. Absolutely sick of watching them go up on a 3-0 count, watch a total meatball go by as the pitcher tries to avoid the walk, then swing at two bad pitches to strike out. Danny V just did it to end the 1st, but he's hardly the only one.

Bases loaded in the 7th, outfielder at the plate...why in god's name isn't Kubel pinch hitting?

Edit: ...aaaand shockingly, Revere ends the inning on a weak grounder.

Nathan is the all-time saves leader for the Twins, so that's nice. Plus Morneau and Casilla come back for the next game, so things may be at least a bit more watchable.

Hell I'd take stellar pitching + great D but questionable bats over this crap.

I've accepted the fact that Revere will be the opening day CFer next year, and I'm going to absolutely hate it.

Frankly, Revere should just stop screwing around trying to swing and just bunt every at bat. Probably has just as good of a chance of getting on base...

Some good news. Apparently there is some talk of Nishioka going back to Japan after his abomination of a season.

Honestly If I was the GM, here is what I'd for the bats wise in the offseason:

1.) Re-sign Kubel for like 2 years with a team option for a 3rd. Let Cuddy cash in for someone else, we get the younger player who gives us power. Plug him into DH and just pray his play doesn't fall off. We'll take Cuddy's picks and hope and pray our drafting doesn't suck ass. (our top-3 picks this year have yet to be signed even though the deadline is like 3-4 days away).

2.) Trade Delmon Young for a good starting pitching prospect or hell, any upside arm at all.

3.) Sign Coco Crisp and stick him in RF. Seriously. He can bat in the 2 hole behind Span, he'll get on base and provide speed on base paths. He'll also give us awesome D from RF. Making our OF actually good defensively.

3.) If a guy like 2B Skip Schumaker hits free agency, sign him to a 2 year deal with an option for a 3rd. As long as he gets on base at a decent clip and plays average D, we're good. I'd love someone who can do more, but at this point, all I want is someone who can do the bare minimum.

4.) This is going to hurt to type but.........let Alexi Casilla play SS next year until you can get a better option. We don't have anything better. If he can at worst provide good D, we'll take what we can. ****.

5.) Get a backup player who can play 1B and C. Someone versatile. Why? We need someone who can rest Morneau and/or Mauer from time to time. Hell I'd overpay if need be aswell. We need someone who can plug into the starting line up from time to time, and actually get some decent production from that person. Not Drew Butera level.

6.) Pray to every Deity that Morneau and Mauer's health hold up.

7.) Pray even harder that Bill Smith acquires some semblance of a clue on how to run a baseball team.

And now I'll tell you what will happen.

- Span is moved for Clippard and Lombardozzi of the Nats.

- Twins attempt to find a catcher that can hit, but they realize teams that have them don't trade them. And they don't hit the free agency market. Drew Butera it is!

- Delmon and Liriano are moved for minor league relievers.

- Twins sign Cuddyer to a 5 year deal.

- Kubel hits the market.

- Casilla and Tolbert opening day SS and 2B.

- Revere in center, Benson/Plouffe combo in left, and Cuddyer in right.

.....

I would really hate to lose Cuddy. If he does via FA, then hindsight tells me we should have traded him before the deadline. Though that would have looked like giving up.

God the fact that your perspective has a lot more chance to happen makes me super depressed.

I could totally see Smith back off from Storen and 'settle' for Clippard.

Holy crap that's a scary thought haha.

Ok here is a question, lets say hypothetically we get a smart baseball GM, would you be opposed to:

- Let Kubel and Cuddy go. Trade Young for anything with an upside.

- Sign Mike Napoli to a big deal for around 4 years if he reaches FA. Hear me out. He's a guy who can play both C and 1B at an acceptable defensive level, add in he apparently has a bat, would guys be willing to take the risk?

Between him, Mauer and Morneau, these 3 could rotate between playing their positions and playing on DH, while we'd be keeping bats in the line-up.

Add in singing a RFer like Crisp cheap and a 2B like Schumaker. We'd have:

Span CF
Crisp RF
Mauer C
Morneau 1B
Napoli DH
Schumaker 2B
Casilla SS
Revere RF
Valencia 3B

Not too bad of an offense imo.

Also, Kubel and Cuddy have been approached about negotiating a new deal. Cuddy first, he apparently was not interested, Kubel recently. I'm guessing he is interested.

Kubel should be re-signed, Jim Thome will not be back next season as the DH. This opens a rotation of Kubel, Mauer, Morneau at the DH spot when the Twins spell Mauer/Morneau from playing there positions.

Not all that excited about giving Cuddyer a big contract, open to a reasonable one though.
