Yup, I'm fine with standing pat right now, saving cap and going through a year of growing pains for the Vikes. Barring some kind of history book-making miracle, they're not winning the Superbowl this year. They'll have much more money to spend next offseason and Larry Fitzgerald has openly said if he's not playing on the Cardinals he wants to play on the Vikings.

James Jones, Malcolm Floyd, etc. are slight upgrades at best, lateral moves at worst. They won't be worth the money they'll command, IMO. I would wait.

Well... He's from Minnesota. It's obvious that anyone who has lived here wants to play professional sports here, duh!

If I remember correctly, they reduced it down to 1 year. Terms of the deal haven't been made public yet though..

Everything I've seen has said the Vikes required it to be 1 year as part of the deal.

What's the story with James Jones? They were rumored to have signed him or be close.

The Vikings are rumoured to be talking to numerous WRs... including James Jones, Malcolm Floyd, and Braylon Edwards... as of right now.. its all speculation until we finally see someone sign lol

Yahoo seems to like the McNabb move.

Funny T-Jack quotes though:

Quote:
Seattle went after Jackson, who flopped in Minnesota after getting some absurdly quick hooks from angst-ridden coach Brad Childress.

Anyone who has seen Jackson play knows that there’s a lot of physical skill to him. He’s got a strong arm and he’s a decent runner. He doesn’t read the field particularly well, but he didn’t exactly get much of a chance to learn from his mistakes before he was yanked.

Then again, in five years, he threw 603 passes, finishing with a 76.6 rating, 24 TD passes and 22 INTs. Those numbers are better than the ones posted by Kolb. Of course, stats only tell a small part of the story.
I wonder how many Vikings fans would say that T-Jack didn't get enough of a chance and this his numbers aren't as good as his on field performance?

Wait, wait, wait...they're saying Childress (i.e. the only man in the world with any faith in T-Jack) didn't give him chances to succeed?

@Jay_Glazer

I am reporting that Falcons have signed Vikings DE Ray Edwards to a 5 year deal.

There goes another starter I wanted to keep

Signing Robison over Edwards was a AWFUL decision. Hell, that Robison contract is absolutely brutal in of itself.

Meh. Ray's attitude sucked. I'm just mad with the new CBA we didn't get draft picks (both would've been 1st rounders IIRC) for him and Rice. Adios Ray.

They get comp picks, probably 2nd-4th round ones because of their contract numbers and playing time. Still not great value for two guys who were among the best on the whole team, and extremely young to boot.

Ray Edwards deal is 5yr/30mil with 11mil guarateed... in contrast to Robisons deal of 3yr/14.1mil with 6.5mil guaranteed.

Edwards>Robison....

I tried to look some stuff up on the new CBA in regards to compensatory picks, and it's not clear if there is still a free agency compensatory pick system, and if it does still exist, whether it will be at all similar to the old secret system. It seems there is a way for teams to be compensated with picks by the league, but I haven't seen anything that shows it's for lost free agents.

Yep, it's not close at all either. And their contracts are only $1.3m APY apart too.

There's the reason as to why you don't fracture a relationship beyond repair. What terrible asset management from the front office.

Yea... because he saw that Management didn't value him at all when his backup made bank.

The front office has to take the brunt of the blame for that given the way they handled the situation. That's just ineptitude at it's finest.

What did they do to get that blame out of curiosity?

They had not one conversational contractually with either Rice or Edwards since either signed their last deals. Considering those two are some of the best and youngest players on the team, that's embarrassing. Not to mention they set themselves up for any relationship with either player to be completely and irreparably strained. Again, awful, just awful asset management. And if you look up and down this roster now, you can really see just how bad and how quick this front office has turned this franchise into a team that will likely be picking top 5 this coming year.

Anyone else notice what Danny V's been using as his walk-up song lately? At first I thought it was Cuddyer or someone getting the audio crew to pull one over on him.

I don't blame management at all for Rice. He got ******** about not being immediately offered a huge career length contract after the 2009 season. Then, instead of addressing his hip injury in the offseason, he waited until training camp to even reveal that it was an issue, then spent so much time on IR. At this point, it's not even clear whether he's anything of the same player. Maybe you could argue that management should have acted differently two years ago, but every single thing since has been on Rice's shoulders.
