I don't know if this is new news to you guys, but apparently Dmitri Kurgyshev has signed with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL for the next two years.

Ah the KHL or AHL 2 as it's known now. Should be good for his development, he just seems like a kid who will never play in the NHL, but who knows could be a late bloomer.

Perrault is a 13th forward type. Players of his ability are a dime a dozen.

His upside is Glen Metropolit. The Caps wouldn't feel his loss in the slightest (if he were to be claimed).

No point in letting him be claimed if they could get even a late pick or other prospect for him, though, or use him as a throw-in in a bigger deal. He does have value. Hell Danick Paquette had value. A good GM doesn't waste assets, no matter how small.

That said, the value of playing whoever takes his spot in the NHL may be greater than the value of keeping him on the roster. Ideal situation is to get something in a trade. Cost-benefit blablabla.

I think if he had any value, he'd have been gone last deadline, or over the summer.

Paquette is two years younger than Perrault, has a ton of grit, and is only a second year pro. Perrault is a finesse 4th year pro who offers absolutely nothing outside of offensive creativity. It's not hard to see why Paquette would have more trade value.

I posted it in this thread, and it's not SKA St. Petersburg, but CSKA Moscow

At this point isn't Kugryshev a long shot for ever making the NHL?

Potulny would likely be called up before Aucoin. Not sure why people think Perreault is our only depth offensive center we have.

That being said, Perreault definitely still has value to plenty of teams around the league. The Devils would likely love him given the injury to Zajac. Same with teams like Phoenix and Calgary.

Correct. Barring some incredible dev in the next couple of years over their at the KHL. He looked to be ECHL bound considering Hershey's roster so definitely makes sense for him to make this move.

Question,

Where are most on here penciling Sjogren at? If he makes the squad I would rather see him cut his teeth on the 4th line.

Also most have Halpern at 4C, anyone see him at 3C?

I'm penciling Sjogren in on the "checking/energy" line and Halpern on the "shutdown" line. No idea what numbers those will be.

all the conversation from the team and halpern has focused on 4th line. i would expect to see him play some elsewhere, but square 1 is 4th line which means that sjogren is pencilled in elsewhere. 4th line wing with hendricks perhaps. that makes the most sense with chimera and ward starting at third line wings

I don't think Laich will play 3rd line. Given his big contract, I'm pretty sure Caps see him as a top 6 forward.

If Johansson breaks out for 40-50 points, which he could easily do... they're fine. Of course they still don't have a strong 3rd line C but that can be minimized by the players they brought in.

This is what happens when you have one too many overpaid Russian wings, (not naming names).

someone here feels that way. thinks johansson cant be a good 2c because he wont last and never should have been chosen.

if it was not you, my apoligy.

what makes it ugly?

backstrom is a legit 1c
johansson played the final 30 games at a 20 goal pace and was strong in the
playoffs. he had already proved to be solid defensively and outstanding on the pk.
seems like a solid 2c to me.
halpern is a very solid 4.

that really just leaves 3c. if that player were a total loser added to the other three and you dont get ugly.

so...help me out. why is it ugly?

I don't think that's ugly, but it's not very deep either. It depends on your standards, where you set the bar, and what the Caps should be trying to achieve right now. If it's a championship, well the last five Cup winners down the middle have been more impressive.

2011: Krejci, Bergeron, Kelly, Peverley, Marchand, Campbell, Seguin (Savard injured)
2010: Toews, Sharp, Bolland, Madden, Kopecky
2009: Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Talbot
2008: Datsyuk, Filppula, Draper, Helm (Zetterberg also played both center and wing this playoff year; Draper shifting to wing a good deal)
2007: Getzlaf, Andy McDonald, Niedermayer, Pahlsson, Marchant

The Caps don't have a #2 center. It shows. I like Johansson a lot as a prospect, but it's expecting a ton of a sophomore to expect him to fill that spot this early in his development. He should not have to shoulder that load so soon.

Yeah, I'm a Perreault basher myself as well. I'm not sure McNeil has anything to contribute at the NHL level, mind you, but what evidence there is where Perreault is concerned leaves me with very little confidence that he will contribute anything at this level. McNeil benefits from the lack of evidence, perhaps, by contrast.

A small Frenchy out of the Q scores, until he reaches a level of competition with a strong physical element. It's only a pattern we've seen, what, a million times already?
