Jets theme song

What song should they play as a prelude to the Jets coming out on the ice at the start of the game. Or should it be an air traffic controller announcing it's time for take off followed by the sound of a very loud jet engine?

Because of how insane the crowd will be on Oct 9.. I can picture this; Right before our boys hit the ice they shut off the lights...crowd starts screaming getting unreal loud... blackness and deafening noise from the crowd...30 seconds later the booming sounds of a fighter jet flying overhead and then the intro to Thunderstruck comes on...

Other than opening night, I'd rather not use Thunderstruck for our intro though!

I've thought about this a little and there are so many great choices. For a while I had wanted it to be Jump, but now I think it's time to move on and find something new. I kind of want TNSE to go off the beaten path a little bit and find something unique. I'd really like to avoid songs like Thunderstruck etc. They seem so played out and unoriginal. I do think though that a recording of a jet engine fly over leading into the song would be really neat.

I would go with this:

Jericho was raised in Winnipeg and Ted Irvine his father played in the NHL(though not a jet).

I know this is hard rock song and is not the rap or country flavor of the day and as such would never merit consideration. I'm okay with that. The song Immortal by Clutch has sort of obliquely represented a return of the Jets to me in a way, for quite some time. It is a song about an immortal warrior.

The chorus is...

I, liquefying
Blood of lions
I ain't dying
I am immortal

The chant you occasionally hear in the background is "dog years"; to me that represents... the coyotes.

I hate Jump (and all Van Halen for that matter). But it HAS TO be played for the "Here Come the Jets" moment of their first few games. Then I would go Thin Lizzy and "The Boys Are Back in Town":

They should also use Jet, Benny and the Jets, Takin' Care of Business, and even Welcome Back Kotter in pre-game and during game breaks.

Maybe they should work on a Scottish-style fan song:

I love Hobble's idea for Coming Home by DDM, but obviously you can't skate on the ice to that. I can see them do some kind of montage with the teams history and a pictorial of all the events leading up to puck drop to it on the big screen before the game, that would be so sweet.

I'm almost certain for opening night they will skate out to Jump, by Van Halen. They have to do it... people will go friggin nuts!

After that however, I think its time to put the old music to rest. No Jump, no Bennie and The Jets, no Jet from Paul McCartney, no Thunderstruck (though I love the idea honestly).

My choices are:

I know they are both rock, but IMO nothing gets people pumped like a good banging rock track.

I also think a song like Just Can't Get Enough or Rock That Body by the Black Eyed Peas would be a solid idea.

I'm actually an old school Thin Lizzy fan, but that particular song has been played to death in countless arenas over the years. You couldn't have chosen a more played out tune if you'd tried.

Linkin Park? 3 Days Grace? I expected better of you, Jet!

A good song for sports is probably one that ESPN's grantland describes- something that immediately lets you know what's going on with some sort of memorable hook or riff, keep the crowd pumped, etc.

I'm going to go with local boys Comeback Kid, or Sacramento-based band Deftones.

I agree, but it's the kind of song that would be nice to throw into a warm-up mix.

Speaking of warm-up mixes; those are typically chosen by the players, correct? At any rate, there has to be some Tragically Hip integrated in there. And no, I'm actually not a big Hip fan, I just think it's great music to warm-up to. Rope by Foo Fighters (I'm a big fan of the Foos) should be in there as well, love that tune.

Thunderstruck would be so epic. We could yell "Go Jets!" during the "thunder!" part, that would be incredible. But I would like to see an outside of the box song, a song that isnt a pure pump up song. Vancouvers U2 song is a good example of a softer song that isnt epic but on top of a roaring crowd sounds epic. Weaker thans song maybe?
