You're also not taking into account the relative value of 2nd round picks versus sweater-jackets and white afros and the lack of any pick protection and jungle cats.

I have money on there being a Lokomotiv memorial on his mask.

The artist who designs his mask said he finished it and sent it to Denver at the end of August. I'm guessing it might be pretty difficult to add something now. So if he wants some sort of memorial for Lokomotiv, the guy would probably have to start all over again.

He could probably add the logo to the back without too much problem. But I'm probably grasping at straws now.

Could just slap a sticker on it, like Jose Theodore when he was traded to Minnesota.

How hard is it to add more? I know they're airbrushed and then sealed, but surely sanding a section and starting again can't be too hard, or he could just order a new back piece.

I think most people realize he mourns, whatever his mask looks like. He traveled around the world to express his sympathy and sorrow. I'm not sure a sticker or not is all that important.

Bumped.

Guy on the main board is saying this deal remains a joke. About 95% of posters agree that the Avs are looking good.

It's funny to read the old thread here:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...d.php?t=940137

A ton of doom and gloom, even from me. I still don't like the RISK of the deal, but value-wise it's shaping up damn good.

A VERY good young goaltender for a mid-round 1st and a 2nd? Most GM's would do that in a second.

Insert foot into mouth. I was somewhat against the trade, but now I really like it.

I remember I was out of town and having trouble getting HFBoards to load on my phone in the hotel. Then all the sudden all this stuff happened.

Sherm basically paid what you'd pay for a more established young goalie before it was certain that he could be a good goalie. It took some sack, and it looks he made the right deal. We have a lot of guys around the same age and this team can grow together. I'd hate to think what we'd have been like this year without Varly.

The reason people on HF didn't like the deal was because they were expecting another Kessel for Seguin type situation. The difference is that a good young goalie like Varlamov has a greater impact on a team than a scoring winger does. Could Varlamov have gotten injured and we end up giving them Yakupov, sure. But i think Sherman did his research and got the player he wanted. Was it a risk of course but a calculated one, just like all of his other deals

I like how the one guys argument is that we didn't give Elliot enough time to show how good he is. I should go get them to sign me for the rest of the year. I'll suck, but since it is only a small sample size, I should get signed for sure.

The Blues were so confident in Elliott when they signed him that he didn't even get a one way deal.

it's funny because the "watch the Avs fail" thread in the Caps board was actually started by a Bruins fan who bragged about how awesome it would be to watch Colorado get a lottery pick. Then it just turned into angst because Varly played dope whilst Washington's goalies fizzled out

Guys, we should have signed Theodore or Harding to be our starter.

Stupid Sherman.

Still thrilled with this deal. I really hope we finish higher than the caps in the final standings. It would be hilarious if their pick is better than ours after all the crap they talked.

If they make the playoffs, our pick will be better, even if we have more points at the end of the season. 14 non playoff teams have the 14 highest picks...

as a complete outsider, I say you guys won the deal. Varly is a great young goalie who you can build around. Not many organizations can say that.
