I agree, it's unusual for a division rival to help a team out like this.

I will secretly pull for them whenever they play the Pens, Rags, or Flyers.

for the younger element of ranger fans, I'd say yes. I'm old enough that it will always be the flyers and islanders to me. I go to devils games all the time as I live in NJ and have lots of devil fan coworkers and friends.

But yeah, I enjoy reading any post that involves either team; the crazies on both sides represent in force

Isles and Devils fans are forever bonded by their common enemy. Just like Dodgers and Giants fans back in the day.

Agreed. As much as I hate to admit it, Fatso is the best goalie of all time. I'd kill to have Parise on the Rangers anyways

But Henrik is still better.

Cheers and good luck with next season.

When the Devils went on their hot streak, Rolston was one of their better players.

This is a nice add for the Isles.

Yup, just like Gomez and Smyth were immovable a few years ago too. I really don't value the "opinions" of posters on here too much. They teand to WAY over value picks and unproven prospects while not seeing the real value of actual players in the NHL. Sure some may have bad contracts and maybe that hurts their value some but very few degrade so badly that NOBODY would want them (Souray and McCabe come to mind off the top of my head, they were both shopped and after nobody was willing to offer anything for them they were each waived and sent to the minors).

Good addition for the Isles. They could use a veteran winger.

I see it as a win-win. Isles add a veteran contributing winger for one year who can help on the PP and PK. If he is on the third line like I expect, he will be a huge help for Bailey. This also helps the Islanders because Hunter was borderline useless and was under contract for two years. Devils save 3 million in cap this year which is important and can withstand Hunter's dead finances.

moulson - grabner - tavares
okposo - nielsen - rolston

that leaves the third line for niederreiter to develop should he make opening night roster. looks like an amazing trade for new york to me.
Strome??

Like I said, a great trade for both teams. Makes perfect sense. I always liked the Devils, and our games have become very exciting!

The move serves both teams.

The Islanders get the better player, one who'll likely help immensely in the locker room and perhaps on the PK. It also buys time for the team not to have to rush a youngster.

Rolston is overpaid (drastically in some people's eyes), but the Isles have to hit the cap floor. This goes a long way in doing that. They're still not there yet.

If Brian truly is as enthusiastic about this as he has said he is, look for him to take on a nice, effective role on the third line. Maybe another 30 point season is in the cards?

For those not in the know, the team will likely start the season with Moulson-Tavares-Parenteau and Grabner-Nielsen-Okposo as it's technical first two lines. It's a chemistry thing... It's how they played the great majority of the last 40 games, where the Isles almost had a winning record.

Since the word has been that this Rolston trade was a prelude to another trade, I can't quite say if both or either of Comeau and Bailey will be around to play with Rolston.

Well for argument sake most Islander fans felt Hunter had slight negative value(or best case scenario not much positive value). I think in the case of Rolston his value becomes higher and higher the less amount of years are on his contract
