This really is a win-win trade. Good job by both GMs.

Per Katie Strang, conditional pick is off the table...it's Rolston for Hunter.

Last year he probably was immovable, with one year left on his deal it's a different story though. In the offseason, anything is possible while teams fill out rosters.

Both sides should be/are happy about this deal

so where does El Nino play if Rolston takes a spot in the top 9? I'll be happy if he goes back to Portland.

No room in the top 9 right now, I would say back to Portland unless someone gets traded or injured.

Another NTC is waived. How bad is it in NJ when a guy waives to go to Long Island?
Because it`s basically around the corner. Moving is bad.

Trade Comeau for a top 4 dman.

Good deal for both teams. This means the isles will be trading a forward for a dman soon... Either Comeau or Bailey id assume

He's a career 4th liner/healthy scratch I wouldn't worry

What I really want to know is whether or not Hunter can actually play or will he just be buried being unable to play during i njury. Does anybody know about the status of his health?

Not necessarily. It just means that Nino no longer has a roster spot penciled in.

Honestly, I hope Rolston puts up 20-25 goals for you guys next year. I don't hate Rolston. He turned his game around tremendously after Lou waived him last year. Showed tons of class throughout the whole fiasco.

What I hated was his contract. Adding Kovy at LW when we already had Parise, Elias, and Rolston meant we had way too much money going to that position.

The Devils budget has ben very tight lately and this really helps.

Best of luck to Rolston and thanks for waiving the NTC. Hopefully Hunter passes the physical.

Am I crazy for thinking Hunter could contribute for the Devils this year? They could use a RW with grit on the 4th line.

Boulton/Steckel/Hunter would be a line of atrocious skaters, but I could see them causing some havoc.

Apparently Hunter's stock has greatly dropped in the last few years, both on HF and in reality.

I remember when he was untouchable on HF not long ago.

Is Rolston a stright up LW or does he play his off wing like comeau?

How is Rolston playing at this point in his career?

The Islanders were completely unimpressed by Nino's conditioning at mini-camp. He probably bought himself a one-way ticket to Portland then.

He could definitely contribute. Its just a matter of whether or not he recovered from his knee injury.

Keep in mind that he was the slowest player in the league prior to that injury, so who knows where he is at at this point and time. He was just fast enough so that he could bang his body effectively beforehand. He could still shoot though (and he will shoot from every conceivable angle at every opportunity so be ready for that).

*EDIT - He is also an excellent forechecker and very good at keeping possession of the puck along the boards, one of the best in the league at that imo.

Solid "hockey trade". Makes sense for both sides. I think the Islanders actually make out better in the end.

He can play any F position, but is best on the LW because of his shot down the wing. He's got a ridiculous slapper, which you guys will find out.

I like Rollie, he's a great veteran, but his contract was a killer for us. But he's definitely an addition to a young Isles team.

As for Hunter we don't really care whether he plays or not. If he does, great. if not, we get even more cap space, which is what we really need.

Rolston is definitely a guy you want QBing the PP.

He has the hardest slap shot of any forward I can think of.

Rolston can play any forward position, but he's much better at wing than at center.

At this point he's a great special teams player, not the greatest 5-on-5 but can still contribute and certainly doesn't hurt his team. A little soft and not as fast as he used to be but he's still got a monster slap shot, 20 goals and 45 points isn't out of the question.

Devil fans must be happier than can be!

I wonder if this derails the Yashin signing for the Isles?

I'm surprised, 5 pages and no one has whined about "cap circumvention" yet. I thought misuse of that phrase was a requirement in any Devils-related transaction thread.
