Ryan Callahan re-signs with the Rangers (3 years, $4.2916 /yr)

As per

@RealKyper Nick Kypreos
#NHL news. Hearing #Rangers Ryan Callahan will not being going to an arb hearing as he's settled on signing a new 3 year deal.

3 years?

Would've liked it to be longer.

BTW, Kyper has been bang on with all of these RFA signings.

I expect:

$3.5M
$4.2M
$5M

$12.7M over 3 years.

Done deal according to Kypreos. Three years means the cap hit will be ~$4M IMO.

Despite only playing 60 games, RW Callahan was 12th in the NHL in Hits by forwards. He was also third in TakeAways behind Dubinsky and Anisimov among NYR forwards. At 5'10, 190, the 2004 4th round draft pick, regularly plays above his size. He had a career year in points last season despite an injury shortened season (60GP | 23G | 25A | 48Pts)

He had a bit of a lull the year before though -- the season after which he signed his previous contract (ie, his numbers could come down a bit this coming season).

Next item of business for NYR...replace Wojtek Wolski in the top six with a true impact player.

It won't be 4.5, its only 3 years. So unless his agent is a beast, it should be closer to 4 than to 4.5. I'd guess 12 million over 3 years.

~4.2-4.7 for our next captain, I'm fine with.... just wished it was for more years... hell I'd give him 5m AAV if it was a 6+ year deal... heart and soul of the team, gives 100% every shift.. hits everyone, blocks shots, if the doesn't score on the PP he creates many chances for his linemates (i.e. Pack Line).

Thank god you're not our GM. Callahan's style of play will lead him to decline and deal with injuries like it did with Drury.

NYDNRangersJesse Spector

Confirmed that Ryan Callahan deal is now done, as #NYR avoids arbitration with last restricted free agent.

I would welcome Callahan anytime on the Leafs for 4.5 million. He is a heart and soul type of player that gives his 110% every shift and has decent offense to his game. He is a perfect example of a great 2nd liner.

Then you put him on LTIR if he gets hurt and the cap hit goes away. He's still an invaluable part of the team and not a liability on the ice like Drury the past couple years.

#NHL news. #Rangers Ryan Callahan new 3 year deal is believed to be in the ball park of 13M.

which leaves it 4.3 per year

Nice and close with my guess.

Should be a ~$4.33M cap hit, then.

Dubinsky will play more games. He's much more valuable to the team because he is durable and can play healthy.

Good for the Rangers to avoid arbitration. I thought they would have locked him up for a bit longer though.
