No surprise here, hype up the team right before the vote. This isn't about trades to make the team better. This is about timely trades to pass a vote. People shouldn't be fooled to this weekend's activity and have the wool pulled over their eyes.
Cheap publicity for the Islanders to get their names in the paper.
If they cared about winning and their fans, they should have gone after the best players possible and not cared about timing.
So what was that whole Erhoff thing? We tried to get one of the top guys n it didn't work out. We weren't going to sign UFAs for the sake of signing UFAs...
1) Islanders fans complain more than any other fanbase. Botta wouldn't say something he didn't know was happening. This isn't some highschool blogger, it's a guy who writes for AOL, NYTIMES, and has one of the most successful sports blogs on the internet.
2) At no point in time did Botta say the deal was "imminent". He said that it was coming, and we would "like this one", and he was using someone elses words. So, if we use our logic here, someone else knows what the deal might be, and has relayed that message, which would indicate that the deal could still be worked on, right at this very second.
Step back from the ledge. The Islanders aren't going to make a trade to drum up interest from a bunch of hockey fans that should be voting YES anyways. It's to make the team better, and if we are parting with a 30 goal scorer, a 1st round pick, and one of our many talented prospects, we better be receiving a player who can step right in and contribute.
So what's the lastest on this? Still rumored to be making a trade?
Garth said after the Reasoner signing he will trade for a top 4 dman so we've known this for a wile. By trading for Rolston, he has a top 9 winger surplus so Comeau is the obvious choice but I don't know how it will go down since Comeau is without a contract.
