Maybe he will go through Milwaukee. I'm sure he hopes to make the NHL team his first year as a pro but there are no gaurantees.

I know. Milwaukee doesn't feel like a big professional city though.

I think it's safe to assume he'll be receiving a two-way contract.

I think this is more Poile wanting a guy to develop in our own system while still giving us some bottom line depth if needed. I am a little worried because things are starting to look awfully crowded, and we haven't even acquired this supposed top six winger.

This pick has been quite a surprise. Can't wait to see how he does in Milwaukee

That's just it we already have 20+ Craig Smith type players (Spaling, Geoffrion, Halischuck, Bourque, Thang, ect.). We are going to have 4 3rd lines eventually. Why have him turn pro a take another redundant roster spot in Milwaukee?? When he could continue his education and continue to develop for free.

I think the Preds have higher hopes for him then that... he was one of the best players for Team USA at the WC not looking out of place at all playing with Stepan and Wheeler... he even finished second in team scoring.

Perhaps the thinking is he can step into a top six role and look good.

You clearly aren't familiar with the type of player Craig Smith is. He's easily our best offensive prospect. If he plays in Nashville, it would be on at least a hybrid scoring line.

I see Beck is our best offensive prospect. I'm not bashing him. I just think he being overrated a little and that another year a UW would help his development. I'm also thinking that Poile is starting to get desperate to find a Star Forward and may start to rush guys.

From Poile and Trotz at the SOTU, nothing but high praise for this kid. The GM even told him it might be a mistake going back to school when there's a good chance he will make the big club's roster. WELCOME CRAIG...bring back the magic with Blake now in SMASHVILLE.

My thoughts exactly. I like to see kids go through the grind, and work their way through all the levels.

Oh well, at very least the kid seems physically ready for pro competition. Doubt he'll be with Nashville this year though. More of a depth replacement for Geoffrion if he's playing with the big club this year.

Beck has nice upside, but he has some question marks. He's not a great skater, his hockey sense/vision isn't very good--but he has potential.

On the other hand, smith is a much more polished player. Can make plays, can score goals, has great wheels...I would hope this isn't "the solution," but i think the team feels he's pretty much NHL ready. They must have said something enticing, as he was an early consideration for the Hobey Baker.

Come on, this team doesnt rush anyone.. the sent Radulov to Milwaukee after all, and sent him back to juniors the year before when some folks I know were saying he was the best forward in camp then(and remember who we had back then)

so if they are encouraging this kid to go pro I expect he's the real deal... or he'll be in Milwaukee like all of our prospects..

Another year in college could actually hurt his development. Spending two years in college is a very common path to take. He's not being rushed. The kid needs to be challenged if he wants to improve himself.

Don't all prospects have question marks? I'm hoping your right and I'm wrong.
