Dave Barr named Assistant Coach

Per TG former Devil Dave Barr named a new assistant coach joining Robinson and Oates.

http://twitter.com/#!/TGfireandice/s...61922905288704

So it looks like the Dave Barr rumors prior to a coach being named were true.

He played for the Devils in the early 90's. Has head coaching experience in the old IHL and OHL. Was on Minnesota's staff last year.

I googled this guy and the first wikipedia result is a golfer. Guess we are planning on missing the playoffs again.

Interesting setup of coaches we have here. I'm looking forward to this season more and more as we get closer.

Awards:
Guessing he spends time in the press box, while Oates and Robinson stay behind the bench.

My guess too.

Correct me if I am misremembering but was it not the blown call on Dave Barr's playoff goal against the Pens that should have tied the game and sent it to OT that was the final nail in the coffin and brought instant replay to goals the next season?

You just HAD to remind me of that, didn't you? I was at that game. Game 6 vs. Mario and we were up 3-2 in the series. We were down 4-0 and made it 4-3 till stupid Bill McCreary (or was it Dan Marouelli?) blew it. Place went bonkers. That was 1991.

Close. Randy McKay and Dave Barr were compensation for Detroit signing Crowder as a Free Agent.

Ah. I had those names together in my head, but got it jumbled.

Compensation for free agent signings has been a friend to us over the years.

I'm guessing DeBoer might have had a say. Barr was the head coach of Guelph in the OHL at the same time Deboer was coaching Kitchner. I'm guessing he is familiar with him.

Devils actually lost that one but it turned out Detroits package was much better. Devils had asked for Probert.
