couple of facts...webers camp elected for a one year deal, not two. weber will be a rfa next summer too, however the team can NOT elect arbitration, opening him up to offer sheets, only weber can.

Not quite. A player may only be subject to Team Elected arbitration once in his career. There are no limits on Player Elected arbitration.

This does mean, though, since Weber elected a one-year award and would be an RFA again next year, that next year the Preds cannot elect arbitration again and Weber would be exposed to Offer Sheets.

Nope. A QO only requires raises if the player earned <$1M (5 % raise) or <$660K (10%) raise.

The amount of a QO does not directly restrict what a team can offer in arbitration.

If a team elects arbitration in lieu of a QO (for players who earned >$1.5M), the club cannot submit an offer < 85% of the player's last year salary (plus signing, roster, or reporting bonuses).

If a team elects arbitration after tendering a QO, the club cannot submit an offer < 100% of the player's last year salary (plus signing, roster, or reporting bonuses).

If a player elects arbitration, there are no limits on what the club can submit (other than the NHL minimum salary).

Its a low ball and high ball offer. They got to the worst case scenario so it wasn't going to hurt to continue on by low balling. Just classic negotiating. No way Weber and his Agent think he's worth 8, both sides just know that its part of the game to ask for more(Weber) and offer less(the Preds).

Slightly higher of the midpoint between the two of Player and Management. The arbitrator almost always takes the easy road. Number of years is more important than amount because that determines RFA or UFA and whether he's staying in Nashville or not.

Team elected salary arbitration. The player can file as many times as he's eligible for it.

Thanks for the info.

One thing I am not sure about, can the arbitraitor make it for more then one season?
I am under the impression the ruling is ofr just th enext upcoming season.

If that is the case, then Nashville is in the same boat next year.

Since this was team-induced arbitration, wouldn't Weber have the ability to walk away from the deal, as teams can when players induced arbitration?

At the hearing Weber would tell the arbitrator if he wanted a one or two year deal.

No. His only ability to walk away is the Hudler method. Aka not play in the NHL. But since it is team-induced Nashville can't walk away from the deal. (Like they would anyway)

I believe the arbitrator has 48 hours to render a decision, so Thursday.

I am guessing 7.25 mil.

For you Nash fans I hope you can extend him for years to come before he hits UFA. Suter/Weber pairing is deadly now and only will get better.

Having said that , I secretly hope he gets 10 mil form hearing so one of Suter/Weber/Rinne is cut loose one day.... ya one can only dream....

Does it matter what $ amount arbitrator awards Weber ( as far as if Nash would then consider trading him?)

SO if he was awarded $10 mil , would it possibly convince Nash management to consider looking at trade proposals?
I am guessing it would not.

Sorry for being irrational ,I just like Weber so much as a player that I am grapsing at straws and dreaming of a way to see him become available.

maybe we are all over-reacting, but the Nashville board is starting to think Weber doesnt wanna be here and will be traded.
