I am a huge Devils fan and as hard as it would be to see Parise go ,
Weber or Suter would be two out of a handful of players I would be at peace with trading for.
Only thing would be who else the Devils would have to add to get Weber. Urbom? Or would it have to be an established player as well?

Big physical veteran Dmen or young scorers are what we're looking for.

I would think you'd have to add. Weber is the #2 Dman in the world according to Norris voters, Parise was injured, and Weber is an RFA.

Same thing goes for Parise. That and add to the fact that the Devils need a true #1 Dman , the Preds could use some offensive punch , makes perfect sense in trading the two if you look at it in such a simplistic way.

Unfortunate though that Parise is a UFA after this year and Weber is still a RFA , that and who knows why Devils waived/bought-out White's and Hunter's contracts. I was hoping it was to add a player , but could be 'budget' reasons

I agree we would have to add. Parise's injury was not a major one such as a ligament tear that could potentially effect his speed and skating ability. However I understand the concern of coming off an injury.
Wbere being a RFA as well would put his value over just Parise alone.

Having said that , who else would be willing and able to offer something better than Parise + something like a Merrill+ or Urbom+?

I am not saying that every team in the NHL would not be drooling over the idea of having Weber on their team... of course everyone would love to have him. It is just what team would be in the position to actually improve their team by moving their top offensive forward + other assets to get Weber in return?

Devils have Kovy already at LW and have a dire need of a true #1 D so makes sense that they would be willign to make such an offer.

Even if it's a two year deal the Preds would have an entire year to negotiate an extension. I realize a one year deal leaves him as an RFA, but I don't think there is much of a difference between the two in terms of likelihood of him staying.

No. The term is selected when the party (which did not elect arbitration) files their arbitration brief 48 hrs prior to the hearing. All reports say that Weber elected a 1 yr award and will be an RFA again next year.

Worst off-season in Preds history imo. The fire-sale was different, because it was the fire-sale haha. Not a good day for Nashville

According to Edmonton radio Darren Pang said that the Preds were offering 4.7m and Webers camp wanted 8.5m.

Since Weber only played 28 games in his rookie season the Predators will still have his RFA rights after this season, I expect the deal to be 2 years.

If that's true, it's one of the cheapest offers I've heard in a while. Wow. 4.7?

I cannot believe that the Preds would only offer 4.7.
Has to be misinformation or some sort of huge signing bonus like Richards got or something if that is the case?

If I had to guess, that is what they submitted to the arbitrator, not what was actually offered. they purposey lowballed that deal so for negotiations sake. In reality, they probably offered him more.

As support, we are 7 mil UNDER THE CAP FLOOR. we have to spend it on something. Poile would have offered Weber all 7.

Teams always offer low and players/agents always ask for high.

He will get somewhere in the middle, probably towards the high end.

That could be the case Preds have made in hearing because at that stage both parties are likely to exaggerate their claims (players requesting more than their true value while teams are requesting much less) with both parties knowing that the arbitrator is likely to choose something in between. For example in Mike Cammalleri's arbitration hearing (2007), Cammaleri made a bid for 6.1 million while LA responded with bid of 2.6 million (arbitrator awarding Cammalleri 3.1 and 3.6 for total of 6.7 over two years).

What has actually been the highest award in NHL salary arbitration? Weber could be a good candidate for making a record...

So if he gets the 8 mil that he wants will the Preds walk away or trade him?

Without following Nashville that closely I would estimate that there is no award Nashville would walk away from.
