Frigging Awesome deal..
Front loaded deal maybe, 8-8-4.5-4-4 and an NTC

Now sign Juicy for 3yrs/9mil (DW tells him he'll get his BIG raise after the big 3 contracts expire)

The fact that this deal got done and at a reasonable price means that there is almost no risk that Couture doesn't get done.

I have to think Burns' agent really dislikes Minnesota's organization? I don't think they would pass up on a cheap contract like this for Burns. Right?

Or maybe Burns did not want to stay there because he wanted to move to a team with a good chance at the cup and was willing to take less'er' for it.

I think that's probably the case. It must be frustrating to play for a team with no hope for a cup run in sight when you are in the prime of your career. He must have also felt like he was constantly having to 'do it all' and that can get very exhausting. Changing coaches constantly doesn't help either.

I really was expecting a DW panic signing overpayment. I am going to give him a +1 for getting his guy at a fair cap hit.

Funny some people on the main board say he only deserves 4m.

Great News!!! If true at 5.75M, amazing news. I was hoping for 6M, realistically thinking 6.5M and would have been OK with 7M (knowing how the cap has been going).

C- Off-season, my ass.

This is just so amazing...and unexpected. Wow thought it would have taken at least until after Christmas for this to get done but, yeah, this is better.

To be fair, it was only one person and he obviously has a problem with our organization (See history).

Was thinking the same (customizizing my Black armor). I'm still leaning towards Couture though.

I was gonna get a Burns but everybody else is, so now I might wait for a resigned Demers.

Spectacular job by Wilson. I did not expect him to keep the years under 7 and dollars under 6.5 (which I would have been fine with). If you had told me he would sign for five years I'd have guessed Burns would be in the 7 mill range. 5.75 is an extremely fair cap hit, and 5 years is just about ideal. Seabrook got pretty much the same contract as an RFA with ties to the haws (who also happen to be one of the premier destinations for free agents). Wisniewski isn't half the player Burns is and he got 6 years for only 250k cheaper. Yandle (who is around Burns is level) received 5 years 5.25 million per, despite having three more years of RFA.

Also, our cap situation for next year:
Marleau (6.9)- Thornton (7)- Couture (RFA*)
Clowe (3.625)- Pavelski (4)- Havlat (5)
Mashinter (.8305*)-Handzus (2.5)- Viedensky (.6)
McGinn (.714*)-Desjardin (.594*)-Hamilton (.9)
Murray or equivalent (.525)

Vlasic (3.1)- Burns (5.75)
Murray (2.5)- Boyle (6.67)
__________-Demers (1.25)
Braun* (RFA)

Neimi (3.8)
Greiss (.5875)

*RFAs; for Mash, McGinn, and Desjardin, I used their qualifying offers for next year.

Total: 56.846 million
Cap ceiling: 63.4 million
Cap space 6.54 million (needing Couture, Braun, #6 d-man)

We're in great shape!

WOW! Awesome News!!!

I thought it would be 6.5-7, so either he's not as good as I thought or DW is a GM God. Your choice
