Why are you guys saying we are pitching pennies? We signed Green to White salary for 4 years. My guess is that Lou doesn't think White will be good enough to make the top 6. Maybe Lou really likes what Taormina showed him last year.

Volchenkov - Taormina
Tallinder - Larsson
Greene - Fayne

Salvador if he can play (but my guess is he can't)

6 million for one year is makret value for an RFA of his ilk. I do agree, but it was more having to sign a 1-year deal than long term where the UFA years would be higher.

I'm buying the ownership stuff now. Though that has me more worried than before.

It will be a cold, cold day in hell when Lou Lamoriello willingly starts a season with three rookies playing defense in the starting lineup.

It cannot be a financial decision, because buying out White is going to save you .5M, MAX.

It's a cap space move or they want him claimed on waivers. That's the only way this makes sense

I don't think White will be claimed simply because most teams probably think we will buy him out given the timing (post arbitration buyout period) and thus they can get him for less.

No idea what's going on with this organization anymore. Lets move our best defenseman last year. That sounds like a good move.

WOW. This is a puzzle to me.

Now, I am not in the same fanclub thinking White is our clearcut best guy out there. I know there is a strong following here......He isn't the same Whitey as from years ago (wth the eye injury and such)...... I don't think he was our best defensemen last year.
(In my opinion, as putrid a first half Tallinder had, Henrik stood above the rest during that second half Lemaire goldrush, in terms of value to the team.)

...........BUT that being said, White is still has a very solid role on this team..... middle-pairing shutdown guy, IMO. Certainly he isn't being waived due to performance/skill/depth issues...

Has to be some sort of deal in the making.

This is pretty concerning. Really makes me wonder what the deal with ownership is, since this seems to be a key factor behind this kind of a move. If White was signed for multiple seasons, I could understand if the feeling was that he wasn't performing well enough for the $3 mil a year salary. But with it being a 1 year deal, I'm really worried about the financial state of this team.

If there is any positive to take out of this though, maybe the "budget" explanations for Parise and a 1 year deal weren't lies/cover-ups like we had thought.

If White is on his way out who are we going to have to be unable to clear the puck in our own zone? Or try and take the body in the neutral zone and while doing so completely take himself out of the play leading to odd man rushes?

OK, now I'm even more pissed. I HATE BUYOUTS! I HATE seeing cap space taken up by....NO ONE! We have'll have almost $3 million taken up by bought out players this season. That's a friggin $3 million cap hit for players that are not even on our roster!

Lou has clearly lost it now.
