He'll PK and eat minutes. He won't provide any offense, but he's a solid 3-4.

Colin White is a serviceable top-3 shutdown defenseman.

This is really kind of sad. White only had one year left. It's concerning when you buy out one year at 2.9m for budget reasons.

Maybe he didn't want to give up his #5 for Larsson so he got the boot instead.
As for Hunter, why would they ask him to come to the arena from Western Canada and take a physical, show him around the arena and then 4 days later put him on waivers.
Nothing makes sense.
He took the physical to confirm he was healthy enough for a buyout, and complete the trade and get Rolston the hell outta here.

Solid 3-4 shutdown dman who will eat minutes and a very good penalty killer.

Yeah, let's sign a guy to a 15-year, $100 million contract, and then focus on ****ing up the organization and the team one year later....
Buyouts drive me nuts. I really despise when we have that much cap space eaten up by players that are not even on our roster!

You'd think Lou could have traded him if that were the case. Lou tried to move him, its obvious the league feels he is not a top 3 d-man.

He should have been a lifer.
There is obviously a backroom dynamic that has never existed before in the Devils organization. As I've said in the past, I do not believe for one second Lou is pulling these strings.
Sorry, I just cannot believe it.

Lou's already in the HoF, so I guess he can go all mad scientist now without fear of reprisal. WTF...
Buyout Whitey when he's still solid? Depth of D and RW? I can step in a deep latrine too Lou, doesn't mean it looks or smells good.
I hope another shoe is about to drop to make sense of all this.

He wouldn't have been asked to waive unless there was a deal in place. You don't ask a guy to waive his NTC and then go shopping for deals.

I guess the Islanders didn't want him for futures? I'd think he would waive his NTC to go somewhere that's so close.

I believe it is a little more complicated than that. Yes, he is but they need to agree on a price in the first place. It could be the minority owners want to pair down the payroll so the team shows more profits and thus the value of the team is higher and they get more for their shares.
When teams often go through some type of ownership sell they cut payroll in order to increase the value.
