Islanders on the move (thread originated in summer 2011)?
So according to Kevin Allen of USA Today, the Islanders have lost the vote and are likely to relocate to another city by 2015-2016.
Any of you Flyers fans sorta pissed the vote didn't pass? I kinda have a soft spot for the Islanders ,not that I ever wish them to beat the Flyers, but they have a great group of young talent going forward and it will be fun to watch them as early as next season. Plus I'd rather have the Islanders and their fans over the Rangers, Devils, and Penguins.

I'm sorry but every fan should be feeling horrible for the Isles. Its not right how the Nassau county economy strives off the Isles and today they gave the team/fans the finger.
I feel terrible for Isles fans.
If the Flyers were ever eliminated in the playoffs and there still in contention, I'm rooting for them.

Nassau residents endure the worst taxes in the country. When was the last time you actually had a voice in getting to say no to more taxes? Not surprised at all by the outcome.
The proposal for a new $350 million arena for Nassau and the Islanders was rejected by county voters at today’s public referendum.
Charles Wang and Edward Mangano will have to decide on their next move. This referendum was their idea. The vote was set up purposefully on a summer Monday to give their proposal the best chance to win, and the final result still wasn’t close.
Mangano called it a “great day” because the people had their say. Wang said he was “disappointed” and “heartbroken,” but declined to discuss specific next steps. He also said he was really looking forward to a great season from his team this season.
Mangano and Wang could still try to work out a different deal with legislature and see if NIFA will approve it.
Of all the teams that have had relocation buzz in the past few years, the Islanders are the one tha I hate to see move. Great history, good young talent. My dad would always tell me how great that team was in their dynasty.
yeah this isnt good at all. I cant imagine the Rangers are thrilled with this. With the Isles looking like they are on the upswing, they would lose a huge rival. Rangers/Isles games are always intense. When both teams are in playoff contention even more so.
I hate to see teams go(especially teams with history like the isles).
I hope the coyotes have a chance too, seeing as im from new mexico the coyotes are my second favorite team. Well, there goes a good rivalry of ours.

Such a shame.
I still have nightmares of that dynasty and of course Leon Stickle screwing us over.
Wasn't there mention of them possibly moving to Queens? I'd be in favor of that option if that could happen, of course neither their name nor their logo would make sense.

That would be terrible. I've always had a soft spot for those guys.
The kinda team that if you didn't play 100% they would beat you, but it you did play 100% you won everytime. Gotta love a team that gives it their all week in week out.
In regards to Wang I'm very pleasantly surprised by his handling of the whole situation in general he does not get very much respect as an owner however his true colors have come out now and it seems he really cares and it truly hurts him that he cannot keep the team their. Let alone the emotional detriment but he has hemorrhaged a ton of money into keeping the franchise alive and so far pretty well. Nasal county is going to miss having it when they start losing money and have 0 income source. On the bright side the Nets are building a new building in Brooklyn and it is said that it will be able to hold an NHL size rink. Well see what happens but these are not good times for the only team I respect and like in the Atlantic other then us

Barclays Center? I read from other forums that NHL hockey can't be played there.
