Except for the fact that Boyle has a NTC.

Pretty similar to a Loan to the AHL.

The player has to clear waivers and consent to the Loan. The team is still responsible for his salary - but can negotiate with the Euro team to pick up all or a part of it. Once loaned, he does not count against the cap during the season.

I don't think its that crazy to assume a deal for an above average third line winger is currently, or will be in the works. I'd love for them to stand pat on this defense, but we have some glaring issues to address with the third (and fourth) line(s).

If we give up Braun or Vlassic we better pick up a third line winger on the order quality-wise of a potential step up to second line duties assuming there's injuries. Not to mention the Todd likes to throw people around to get the juices flowing. The current 3/4 lines are not where we wish they'd be unless some of the juniors make big strides this year.

Instead of trading Vlasic, maybe Braun and Moore together can get us the third liner we want? Braun and Moore (and maybe a lower round pick) for Comeau?

Even if they make big strides, you don't want rooks on the 3rd line in the playoffs. Chances are they'll disappear...

Don't get me wrong, I agree completely. But I wouldn't mind seeing McGinn-Zues-(unknown proven competitor) as the third line, assuming McGinn finds one iota of scoring touch this season. That way Mitchell (not a big fan...) is at best a fourth liner.

That reminds me: Michell/Braun for 2 real pieces? anyone?

That's what I was thinking. And to be fair hockeyball, I called those things too except I wanted Burns since November . Apparently Islanders want more defensive depth and they were fine with something involving Greene, so I could see Braun/Moore+ traded for Comeau. Not sure I'd like it though since he's probably due for a raise next season.

Some of you fans are reading this too much. Look at teams that either won the Stanley Cup or ended up being finalists and tell me that they sign their depth only to trade their original defense later on.

Chicago (09-10)
Keith - Seabrook
Campbell - Hjalmarsson
Sopel - Boynton
[Jonsson, Hendry]

Philadelphia (09-10)
Pronger - Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Parent - Krajicek
[Syvret, Bartulis]

Vancouver (who we lost to because of D exposure)
Bieksa - Hamhuis
Ehrhoff - Salo
Edler - Ballard
[Tanev, Rome, Alberts]

Look at the defense now.
Boyle - Murray
Burns - Vlasic
Demers - White
[Vandemeer, Braun]

All this is telling me is that Wilson wants a balanced D that focuses CONSISTENTLY on getting the puck to the forwards/score AND shutdown. This is simply building for the playoffs (the reason why Heatley was traded for Havlat). Just because Hamhuis was signed, it didn't mean that Ehrhoff/Bieksa was prime to get traded, and just because Campbell was signed, it didn't mean that Hjalmarsson/Seabrook was traded. It's ALL about defensive depth. You also can't tell me that he'll take an expiring RFA contract (for next season) when he has Logan Couture to worry about.

If I had to guess, Wilson thought Wallin - Huskins wasn't going to get the job done (and rightfully so ) and maybe even underestimated the importance of having 3 full defensive lines in the playoffs.

Isles have 7 dmen ready to go in the upcoming season, Braun and Moore make it 9. Also, neither have good experience and I don't know if Braun can beat out Eaton in the top 4 this year, the whole point of trading Comeau is for that reason.

They'd be better off signing Hannan.

Realistically, finding a 3rd line forward around midseason shouldn't cost much in assets

1) Sharks have the cap space.
2) D men often get injured.
3) Depth is good.

IOW, I think the Sharks will be going with 8 D on the roster. Maybe play with 7?

For this reason, we're better off outbiding everyone else and renting Doan at the TDL.

HB needs to stop clamoring for a Vlasic trade. DW has been reading HF boards this summer.

Sharks fans want a top pairing defenseman like Burns- check
Sharks fans want Heatley gone- check
Sharks fans didn't want Wallin or Huskins re-signed- check

Shark fans want a third liner.... HB thinks Vlasic should be the casualty...

Yep, Pickles is a goner.

Hopefully not. Playing with 7 for an extended period of time is just asking for injuries to your top guys down the line. Plus they already have Desjardins/McCarthy/Mclaren/Murray for the fourth. Didn't include McGinn since if DW doesn't make any more moves, he'll probably start on the third.

At the end of the season and as recently as earlier this morning I wouldn't have considered trading Braun or Vlassic.

Frankly, I still wouldn't. I like them both. A lot.

But if it happened now, I would at least understand, given our forward needs.

ATTENTION DOUG WILSON: I know that HF Sharks often whine about Vlasic and his faults and ignore the faults of some other players, but I want you to know thag you shoul not trade Vlasic! He's young, cheap, and the perfect partner for Brent Burns. I kniw how you like to mold your team off of whichever team has just beaten you in the playoffs, so to follow this trend, why don't we keep Vlasic and roll with 6 top-four guys like Vancouver did.

Vlasic-Burns
Murray-Boyle
C. White-Demers
Vandermeer Braun

Solid.

I'll just keep clamoring for Vlasic, Braun, Moore Doherty and 2 firsts for Weber so we can have Weber this season for cup or bust year, then trade RFA weber for tremendous return next offseason OR let him get offer sheeted and take four first round picks back.

From twitter:
@CraigCustance
Craig Custance Spoke with an NHL exec who said the Preds have "no choice" but to consider trading Shea Weber following arb. ruling: http://t.co/iurkQqd

Trade Moore. Sign Wellwood, and perhaps even sign Hunter. Pick up something filthy at the deadline, and smile all the way to the SCF. (cross fingers)

BTW, if the defense stays as is, this means Boyle doesn't have to play PK.

White, Murray, Vlasic, Burns, Vandermeer are all capable of playing PK.

Talk about a complete makeover of the defense.
