YES! Finally an Impact thread (sticky?)! 114 season ticket holder for the past two years here and old enough to have seen the Manic play (thanks for taking me dad, I now know you hated it). Psyched about seeing the logo saturday and the jersey in october! Hopefully they have it for sale by Xmas, cause that's going in my stocking for sure. Although I can't wait for a small, raucous and potentially claustrophobic Saputo Stadium for the visitors, I agree that the first game in front of a packed Big O crowd is going to be insane. I can't wait

Who's got the TV deal (channel wise)?

I really think that the Impact could easily be one of the biggest clubs in MLS, right off the bat. Similar to how Portland has done this season.

TVA Sports have the domestic rights for IMFC (Impact Montreal FC)
RDS/TSN have the national rights for IMFC,TFC and VWC

I also hate NDS with a passion but I highly doubt he will get fired any time soon. It will take a few years of mediocrity in the MLS before Joey transfers him elsewhere( because he won't fire him that's for sure)

Frankly speaking guys. I doubt Montreal will be able to get a crowd like Seattle or Portland. If that is what you expect, I'm afraid you will be disappointed.

I am no expert but i believe the mls might be a notch up echl compared to the euro major leagues... but due to $$$ could change quickly.. of course 70% of the teams would then die.. they should do a luxury taxe kind of baseball but more fair, in order to give a chance to the other teams, while bring elite players in n.a.

So in other words this is definitely worth looking into even if you're currently not a fan of soccer because this will be the first time ever that Canadians are even exposed to main stream soccer at the local market level.

It might possibly turn you into a fan. I think I'll probably check it out some time. It can't hurt and I'm sure tickets are fair compared to habs or leafs tickets

I was never a big fan of baseball on TV but when I went to see the Expos I always had a great time. I'm sure with MLS soccer it could be the same. If it's really most comparable to the KHL in hockey terms that's legit.

well Toronto and Vancouver all ready have MLS teams.

as for tickets, I'll be paying 250 $ for my season tickets next year. That's ridiculously low.

And you can be sure that the UM02 and 127 Montreal will be working very hard to make sure enhance the athmosphere . Now we need more people to come out of their shell and join us in chants. People in this city always want to appear so proper.

Are they gonna keep the player from this team to transfer to the MLS or it's gonna be a new team with new player ?

Pretty much a new team, minus maybe a couple players who will make the jump with the team to the MLS.

Hope you do better than 2 wins. Well not really. There is something that happened a few years ago that I cannot let go and will never let go as a Whitecaps fan .

As for the level of soccer, it is much better than the old USL. There really is no comparison.

Remember when Ottawa came into the NHL? We probably won't be great for many years.

In a couple of years, we'll probably get a Zherdev or Kovalev type of french older star like Thierry Henry with NYC's Red Bulls.

I think the Impact will be able to get a really good French star... maybe another Eric Hassli (playing in Vancouver) or Anelka or an older Trezeguet?

A couple of years back the Whitecaps were poised to represent Canada in the CONCACAF Champions League. All they needed was for Montreal to not lose by 4 goals or more. Coincidentally, it did not happen as Montreal lost the game 6-1! Lets just say Whitecaps fans have not forgotten the event and thought that Montreal threw the game so TFC would not be embarrassed.

I'd love to get Trezeguet ! His style would fit perfectly in the MLS. He's not a pure sniper, but a talented garbageman goal scorer. With lesser competition, he'd bag them up in a serious manner.

However, the absolute best would be to get a Center Field. Maradona with a crappy Argentina team won the World Cup by himself. Zidane did the same with France. If we're only allowed one "washed up super star", we should aim at a Center Field !

Oh, and Anelka looks like a trouble maker. And he's friends with Booba .

Messi would likely cost close to what the entire Habs are worth. Might be the best player of all time & he's only 23.

Yup, Maradona played on too many crappy teams, and he'd be his only potential concurent. If Messi keeps it up and doesn't get injuried, I could see it happening too.

Messi in montreal would be amazing but that wont happen. The impact will have to build a team and then build their reputation. Right now the MLS is trying to generate buzz by hiring star players that can not compete on a regular basis at the highest levels in europe for the same amount of money they are receiving in NA. Nothing wrong with that. I just dont see montreal doing that. I see them building something over the years. Hopefully a star player can come out of quebec and play for the team. That can go a long way in helping the cause of soccer in montreal.

Yeah we can get some french star player to come here but lets not forget Montreal has a pretty big Portuguese and Italian community to. Theres Boston, Toronto and then us. I'm sure it can be attractive to foreign veteran stars. After all Montreal is considered to be most euro city of all N-America.
