It will either be EJ or Stazz depending on what they want the personality of the team to be. Johnson is more of an emotional leader, but Stastny is the lead by example, reassuring type. Very similar demeanor to Jonathan Toews. Captain serious, if you want.
I'd give it to Stastny, but Johnson isn't a bad choice either.
I was just at he Pepsi Center checking out my seats for the season tickets, and the rep mentioned they are supposed to announce the captain soon and they were surprised it had not happened.

They thought it was going to be EJ.
My hopes are officially up. Exciting to know it should be coming soon!

Stastny has a -3. I know, I know...plus/minus means nothing. But also consider this...Stastny has not been out against the tougher assignments. That has fallen to Radar who is only -2.
I love Stasny's quiet consistency but do not want him as a long term Captain. I'm not sure a quiet guy is vocal enough to get the ref's ear during game-time conversations. While I stand behind OB1 as my first pick it is getting more and more difficult for me to defend not awarding Radar for his play and consistency or OB2 for his willingness to defend team-mates. I don't have a problem with the AVs not naming a Captain at this point as much as I do have a problem with them locking both Stastny and Hejduk into the "A's."
If the AVs are truly trying to find out who is best suited to role of Captain they should not be limiting themselves to one guest speaker a night. Hejduk doesn't "need" the honor and quite frankly Stastny hasn't "earned" it. Two "A's" should not be fixed when a team is struggling to find it's Captain.
Wow, I was one of only 5 people to vote for O'Reilly? That rounds up to 4% of the vote
I bet this poll would look a lot different if we redid it today! Wouldn't be surprised if he'd get at least 50% right now.
There is no way O'Reilly should be captain right now. He is probably the guy I think will be most suited eventually, but right now I think he would drown. You can't have your captain beating himself up after misses and losses the way O'Reilly does at the moment.

I wouldn't call what he does after a loss beating himself up. When you use that phrase I think of a guy pouting, really mad, or beside himself, which I wouldn't want my captain to be doing. IMO O'Reilly just works out more and harder after a loss, he turns the negativity of the loss into something positive through his work ethic. I'd want my captain to be like that after a loss.
Besides, I don't like to pull the "technically" card, but technically the poll is for who the next Avs captain should be. Not who should be the captain right now. The Avs could rotate "A"s for a few years and whoever is finally made captain would be "The Avs' next captain." Not that they should, but they could.

The poll was created with the assumption that we would have a captain this season.
I like that O'Reilly hates losing and that he always is his harshest critic, but a captain sometimes needs to send the signal that you put a loss behind you and move on. I think O'Reilly will eventually get there when he is more developed as a player. Right now I think he just needs to focus on being a good player. I think that's the reason why he isn't one of the guys with an A currently, despite the organization being very high on him. The team are satisfied with him focusing on the ice stuff.
I think that's why so few voted O'Reilly. Not that he lacks the right stuff. Just that he isn't ready.
I was really in favor of giving the C to EJ after a month or two had passed, but I really thought his confidence and determination shown during the offseason would lead to him taking the next step in his development to being a true stud #1 defenseman. He's played fairly well but he's made a few mistakes and hasn't really come close to "dominating" any game so far either offensively or defensively. He's made some good plays on both ends but hasn't really asserted his will. At this point the question of whether his career will be as just another one of the defenseman, or THE defenseman on a team is still unanswered.
Therefore, if they are going to name a Captain, IMO it needs to be Hejduk. He'll probably play next year too, given he stays fairly healthy, and this will give guys like Stastny O'Reilly, and Landeskog more time in showing they can handle this type of role.
BTW, I think it's become clear that O'Reilly is the best leader on and off the ice whether it's the way he handles himself, or the work he puts in, but I almost feel like this type of player is best suited as a guy with an A. I don't know why but it just feels that the fact a guy is the hardest worker and best leader, while he's not in the spotlight, gives him that much more respect among his teammates and fans that are in the know.
the team just doesnt have a captain IMO. i thought it would be EJ, it isnt. no one is a true leader out there, especially Stastny.
RoR is the best we've got.

I agree. If i'd have to give the C to someone today i'd give it to O'Reilly. He's a guy that leads by example when he's the first one to show up for practices and last one to leave. From what i understand, that's how he is. And he also plays hard and produces on the ice.
Stastny and Duchene are too cocky and immature to get the C. That stupid bang bang dance they do isn't exactly a pro sport captain material, that stuff belongs in junior high schools. And they both haven't really carried the team on their shoulders like they suppose to.
EJ, wouldn't give him the C right now, because he's the guy who promised himself and the team would be much better this year, so far he isn't backing up his words...Not a captain material. Perhaps in the future he can be that guy.
Hejduk, just seems like he's more of a do his job quietly and go home type of guy, not a captain material.
