Everett at Victoria 7/8 Feb 12

at

Amazingly Victoria is now in 7th place 2 points ahead of Seattle who has three games in hand. Victoria is currently 3 - 7 P10

Royals are playing the Silvertips for the first time this season for a total of 4 games. The last two will be in Everett first week March.

The Silvertips are 4 -6 P10 and is currently in 10 place, 5 points behind and 2 games in hand.

Royals sign Defenceman Brodie Clowes

Brodie played his first game last night against Everett. He played two periods and sat out the third.
Has a lot of learning to do in a short time as he is playing with the big boys now
He was caught floundering a few times causing at least four 2 on 1s against us.
In time I am sure he will become a strong asset to the Royals.

He is horrible, question is, do you think that Clowes will be staying for the rest of the season?

I haven't paid much attention to the Royals this year. Went to about 30 Bruins games last year. Jr got booed everytime his name was announced, even if he was granted an assist.

I'm assuming Victoria fans and Chilliwack fans all believe he's only with the team because his dad was the coach. He's awful...

That's interesting. I was really surprised when he got into the last game against Everett instead of Pilton.

It was # 15 Jamie Crooks , who is not known for big hits although he doesnt shy away from the greasy areas ! He is a solid two way player that has good offensive ability and is showing it this year with 30 goals and 58 points to date. He is durable as well as he has not missed a single game in all three of his whl seasons to date ! What is also impressive is the fact that he has increased his scoring pace after the trading of his star linemate Kevin Sundher to Brandon. He has put up 25 pts in 19 games since the trade ! I have been very impressed with the play of Ben Walker as well. Both these guys should continue to be huge pcs for next years Royals. Hoping for some playoff action this spring !! Go Royals Go !!

Calgary at Victoria

Calgary 5 Victoria 3

As usual we stunk like a Skunk last night.
After taking a 2 - 0 lead in the first two minutes, Calgary came back to tie up the game before the end of the First Period.

Our defense is very weak to say the least. Calgary skated past our defense as if they were frozen in time. Goals that should not have happened, especially two of them.
Calgary dinged the posts three time as well.
Interesting to say the least for penalties last night. I think this is the first time this season that Victoria never received a two minute penalty in a game.
There was two fights, both very boring to say the least and then Calgary received a two minute minor towards the end of the third, where the Royals could not capitalize on the man advantage.
Victoria is now 2 and 8 past 10.

Prince George at Victoria 17/18 Feb

Victoria needs to get their butt in gear this weekend or the season is over. Besides playing Prince George 4 more games and Everett 2 (lost last two games against them), there is a raft a games that will most likely be close but my honest feeling is that we will loose most of them.
That is my honest sad opinion from what I have seen this year unless something has lit a fire up their butt to get something going.

Royals take game 1 of 2 with a score of 4-2.

Pretty crazy first period with 5 fights, game misconducts and a goal against us.

Victoria came back in the 2nd scoring 4 goals with 2 being PP.
Prince George scored one in the 3rd.
Cougars went 0 for 7 on the PP whle the Royals went 2 for 5.

Hodges was skating really well, from the start of the game. Kid just needs to get stronger, and he'll be a dominant player next year.

He played one hell of a game last night. I was amazed that the assistant coach on the post game show gave his defensemen Rintou a Thumbs Up on a job well done. I wonder if he was looking at someone else.

Royals losing grip on playoff spot

The Western Hockey League franchise now known as the Prince George Cougars didnít do a lot of winning on Blanshard Street during the final years of its 23 seasons as the Victoria Cougars at the old Memorial Arena.

But the Cougars, in a twist of historical irony, sure picked an opportune time Saturday to record a victory on Blanshard. And just to twist the knife a little more, their 3-1 decision over the Victoria Royals came in a key late-season game before a capacity crowd of 7,006 at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

Rintoul has half a brain cell. He can skate, and carry the puck, but his hockey IQ is low. I'm just glad Stahl is back, and we're seeing less of Habsheid.

I'm also not happy Pilton has been sat recently. But, I guess it's about winning games atm, and Stahl being back pushed him down the depth chart.

I really hope we are able to keep Stahl as a 20 year old next season.

Habshied wrecked his leg falling out of the bus in Seattle (I think). Could be out for the rest of the season

Poor guy, he shouldn't even be on the team if you ask me. Never seen a worse defenceman.

He'd get booed when he was granted an assist last year in Chilliwack, not sure if that got passed onto Victoria fans.

Prince George loses to Portland this evening keeping our hopes alive for the playoffs. Cougars now have one game in hand and play Portland again on Tues.

Victoria at Kamloops 22 Feb 12

at

With Seattle, Victoria, Everett and Prince George all at 59 games and 2 points between 7th and 10th spot, these last 13 games are going to be very crucial to everyone.
I suspect that the last two playoff positions will go down to the wire.

Kamloops is 7 and 3 past 10 while Victoria is 2 and 8.

Veteran Royals have playoff fever

The post-season waltz is always the objective in sports. But it can be a capricious dance partner.

Kamloops Blazers head coach Guy Charron played 734 career NHL regular-season games over 11 years but not a single playoff game, which was the record until broken by Olli Jokinen. Last season, the luckless Charron and his Blazers missed the Western Hockey League playoffs. But this year, he has the Blazers near the top of the WHL and they have easily clinched a playoff spot.

Royals lost tonight 6-3 to Kamloops. Crooks, Caroll and Nelson scored for Vic, and Rathjen had the start, stopping only 25 of 31. The next two games are HUGE! Not that I needed to say that.
