You don't have to be a "premier designer" to know when something looks like rubbish. As for the J looking childish, it was lifted straight out of the Devils logo, so are you saying that's childish too?
To THINK something looks rubbish or to KNOW something looks rubbish?
No, there`s some difference between thought and thought process = there is a difference between the product and the making of it - "J" is the product of childish approach. NJ logo is simple and great as it is. Nothing to jerk on, nothing to vomit on. Childish was to take one letter apparently without looking on it. I`d love to see some designer`s take on MB30. At least three or four of them. And of course not, you don`t have to be premier designer to be able to say it`s perfect or the opposite, rubbish. But the value of those opinions is not equal. I think we can both agree with that.
This was the alternate logo Marty played under when he came up with his original mask. He already stated he didn't want to use the Devils logo in case he didn't stay up and if you look, the J horns he uses are almost an exact reflection of the horns in the U for Utica. Taking that basic shape was the easy way to look proper to either place he played.
It's not fantastic or super creative, but it keeps in the style.
As for the MB30 design - it's fairly well done for having to portray the brand that Marty chose which was MB30. It's hard to be creative with a logo once the name has been preselected and I give it high marks for quality within the scope it was limited to. That said I think the MB30 branding is kinda weak overall. I thought one of his brothers was actually the artist that came up with it but I may be remembering that wrong. If so, how can you really fault him for staying in the family?

look at that pic. he is unnamed. because...you cant put a name on the innocence of that face.
now that I look at the Utica logo again, wtf were they thinking? The U is symmetrical so why not put the horns and tail on the same sides as the NJ logo?
They should have consulted me. I was only 17 at the time but I still could have told them that.

Maybe they wanted to make it look a little bit different.
I agree that the MB30 logo is very weak. I would have preferred something similar to this logo (#s only):
See, that is a logo I can get behind.
And RG, you're right. Someone close to Marty designed the MB30 logo. If someone off the street handed it to him, I think it would have ended up in the trash bin...where it belongs.
We all have our preferences, but it`s not us saying something should end up in a trash bin lol. If that thing is by far better than MB30, I`m the Pope. Nevermind.
please tell me the fact that he wore those to bring awareness to breast cancer was not lost on you.
no it was not. but theyre still pink, and that means theyre in production, and the possibility of marty donning them are at...id say 56%. so its possible.
Enough of Marty. I want to see Moose`s equipment, especially the mask! Might as well be his last one in this league, so it better be some masterpiece. Do work Dave.
i know its an isle's mask but it has the same naive simplicity and kicks ass.
one day the J mask will sit in the hall of fame honouring the best goalie of all time. its become even more of an iconic design when coupled with all the records marty has dismantled.
thats not even funny with sarcasm. i go puke now. uggh,,,
but yes , youre right. the pic looks like modern box type pads to the max. (and yes, i noticed the stupid pad overlap thing when i did it but was too lazy to bother )............ill leave my membership card on lou's desk next time im in jersey i guess)

However a cursive U has the "tail" on the bottom right as seen here
So i think they got it right in a way.
As for the Old school Waffle, I like it. Def reminds me of my goalie days with the old cooper blocker. I will bet that he ends up getting rid of it (the holes) though. He likes to control his rebounds, and the smallest of indention in the blocker could theoretically affect the direction he places the rebound. Albeit small.
