I know the poll is not scientific, but it's a bit surprising that the largest number of Islander fans have checked other.
People leave Long Island because there's no opportunities to keep them there. This voting is just a result of that.

I guess I'm the only Islanders fan in this arctic wasteland.

Amazing. I went to Iceland over last New Year's. I saw exactly one sports bar in Rekjavik and I don't see how hockey would have been on there. How in the world do you follow?

Beautiful country though.

I had to revive this thread. I know in my heart Wang combes these boards and found this Demogrphics thread and said why not move to Brooklyn???

Nassau fans will come, maybe some Suffolk fans, what else are they gonna do? I will get a new arena and the city boroughs will provide me an infusion of new fans!!

interesting that "other" is by far the largest and nassau/suffolk less than 50%.. confirms what i have wondered about this site from the posts that it is more for those who have left the area, trying to maintain contact and those who live here on LI don't use it as much... i would think the actual fan base has more of a LI centric feel

also shows there is work to do in brooklyn to make inroads and build a base

Damn! 5 from Brooklyn. LIRR will be packed with Islander fans for games in 2015-16.

I'm sure there will be new hockey fans coming out, they have 2.5 years to generate a fan base and the LIRR is always there for fans traveling out east. It just sucks though, weekday games kill people from Suffolk.

Per Charles Wang: 30% of STH in Nassau, 30% in Suffolk and 40% in Queens, Brooklyn, Westchester, Manhattan, and NJ

The strategy is to go and grow corporate, out goes the families and seas of kids at the games. LI'ers loved seeing a professional hockey team for peanuts. Well, the owner recognize win, lose or draw, the corporate support was not there - in this era of sports, it's critical.

Moreover, the NHL just moved from LI to NYC, which is more important from population density, tv ratings, market share, corporate sponsors, etc.

The families will do the weekend games, and the once in a blue moon weeknight. The corporations and working professionals will pick up the rest - kinda the same way NYR does it. This is the end of a burbanite team and thank goodness for that.

close but I didn't hear him say 30/30/40..what i heard was "30 some percent nassau , 30 some percent from suffolk" and the rest is spread from queens, westchester, manhattan and nj and of course brooklyn...30 some means anywhere from 30%-40%..if it was 30% flat he would have said it since it would help his point.. you can do anything with numbers(I am an actuary so deal with that on a daily basis) and this is a common tactic to make it seem one way. he also said that the concentration currently and in Brooklyn is expected to be clusters around the arena and decreases the further you go.. he said the biggest concentration is right around the coliseum.. piecing together 61%-80% in nassau and suffolk, average 70%, i would venture a guess that the bulk of the remaining is likely from queens based in his comments and its proximity.. a little less than i would have guessed at about 80% nassau/suffolk with queens 15% or so..

but what i took from these comments was he does expect the STH base to move closer to the new arena.. this is what LIers have been saying.. we will go but cant go as frequently due to travel, and they will need to develop a base in brooklyn and nyc, which to me just makes sense.
