Texas A&M probably coming to SEC, vote tomorrow by SEC. Clemson and Missouri also being looked at. Missouri denying interest.
That would be a serious challenge to the Vols' status as "the only team in the SEC whose existence I tolerate."

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
Okay, since I understand very little about football and contracts..........this titan thing with chris johnson....
Does he have a contract and is he getting paid for "holding"out for a new contract? It just seems a little weird.
What did hammer do one year when he came late to camp? I just vaguely remember that.
Yes he has a contract but he wants a new contract to become the highest paid RB in the NFL. I believe he can get fined $30,000 a day for every day he holds out.

The major difference between NHL and NFL contracts is that in the NHL once the contract is signed, the player's compensation is guaranteed. In the NFL, you might have a 10 year, $120 million contract, but unless you have a portion of it guaranteed you can be cut tomorrow and not be owed anything...
Johnson is severely underpaid for his production, but at the same time...at least make the team act on their words by meeting with them in person at the training facility...

I think at first a lot of people were on Johnson's side, saying the Titans are cheap and do this to all of their players (The Titans being cheap is offbase to begin with, but 99% of Titans fans will never be associated with intelligence), now I think that with it being known that Johnson wants to be not only the highest paid running back, but paid like a QB... people are starting to come around to the team's side of things.
He needs to get into camp, shows that he's in shape for the season and get some face to face meetings with Reinfeldt, I think a deal would get done pretty fast if that happened. Which is why Johnson won't let it happen, this is probably his one chance to get a huge payday, so he has to play hardball because he won't have the leverage in another two years.
Pretty crazy. Bad base running by Omaha, but trailing 4-1 at the time they were aggressive there even with 0 outs and 2 on...
I'm not even sure if it was bad base running. You're taught to go halfway on that and when they saw the ball bounce off his glove they probably figured it was a hit. Just an incredibly lucky, fluky play for the Sounds.

When the ball bounces off his glove, does it bounce off his head also? It has to. Otherwise, how does it go back up so he can catch it? Quite the play anyway.
Chris Johnson supposedly meeting with Mike Reinfeldt and the Titans this morning to go over the parameters of a new contract.
If we want Locker to develop, we have to surround him with weapons. OTOH, if CJ thinks he's getting QB money, ain't happening. Runningbacks are a dime a dozen. FWIW, the titans have rushed for like 150 a game without this preseason.

It's hard to rationalize paying +$13M to a RB in the modern era of football where it is BY FAR the most interchangeable of the skill positions.
Johnson is clearly better than any backup they have, but he's not going to be $10-12M better. He's not Peyton Manning or a true gamebreaker along those lines. The Titans team might be a win or two better with him than without him. Though even that is certainly debatable.
I remember thinking in the final game the Lady Vols played that something didn't seem right. Some of the play calls were just odd. Don't remember specifics, just that it seemed strange that Coach would call for that play then. I wish her only the best.
