Bullpen may be somewhat overworked the past few days, but when you've got the lead going into the 9th, you've got to bear down.
Bastardo being 1 strike away and throwing that pitch that was subsequently deposited in the seats to tie the game confused me to say the least. He's been great so far most of the year, but with 2 outs, nobody on and a 1-2 count with the stuff he has he shouldn't be putting a pitch anywhere near the plate that can be hit like that. You've got 2 pitches to get him to go fishing to end the game.
Wonder if I'm alone in this, and I hate to make such a powerful comparison, but listening to the Phillies television broadcast is making me feel like what Penguins fans have to deal with in theirs. A couple of homers who never shut up the entire game and go off on tangents that have nothing to do with the play on the field. And I'd much rather listen to the radio team call games than McCarthy anymore.
One of the greatest things about Harry and Whitey was silence. They knew that when nothing interesting was happening in the game...they could just be quiet. You'll be lucky to go 2 pitches and have silence from McCarthy, Wheels, and Sarge.

I guess I don't mind them as much as you seem to, but I do agree about the silence. One of the reasons I loved Harry was because he had a relaxing style of calling the game, and the SILENCE. These guys just pelt us with information and stats and blah blah blahdy blah.

yeah my dad had pointed that out last week, and I never thought about it til then. After that I remembered back to the early-mid 90s (when i started watching baseball) and pictured entire innings where'd the two of them would maybe say 5 sentences.

I dont really like the TV crew but I love Frantzke and LA.
Also I think Weavers 5/85 extension will help the Phillies with Hamels.
Hmm. Well, luckily September is a little over a week away. Hopefully it's nothing catastrophic and they just want to make sure he gets completely healed before October.

He Tweeted earlier that it was a "grade 2 strain" FWIW.
Health Bell on waivers as well. Wonder if the Padres noticed the Phillies recent bullpen meltdowns and might be baiting them to claim. Interesting twist Heath already stated he will accept arbitration with the Padres meaning his asking price might go down as they will not get the picks (1st rounder plus supplemental pick) that they appear to want for their rebuild for Bell if the Padres offered arbitration, Bell declined and signed eslewhere as a Type A free agent. Interesting to see if the Phillies go after Bell.
Quote:
Although his main goal is to negotiate a three-year contract with the Padres, Bell said his fall-back position is to accept arbitration this fall if the Padres offer it after he becomes a free agent at the end of this season.
The Padres can retain Bell if they offer him arbitration for the 2012 season and the right-hander accepts. Were Bell to refuse arbitration, the Padres would receive two first-round draft picks if Bell signed with another club.
Given their thirst for draft picks to rebuild their farm system, the Padres would appear to be in a good position. But Bell, 33, could be holding the ace.
“If I don’t have a multi-year deal and they offer me arbitration, I will accept arbitration,” Bell said.
Anyone else think this ump is really bad at calling strikes?
I'm watching the play by play on MLB.com and some of those pitches in that inning SHOULD have been strikes. But hey, we got runs, so I'm not complaining.
