I've picked Ranford in rounds 3, 4, 5, 6, and now 7...how in the world is Sestito ahead of him? Just because he may reach the pro level first?
i really can't understand these ratings. I also picked ranford and have since the # 4 spot. i think sestito, read and holmstrom should be at around 8-10 on the list. the fact that holmstrom is above ranford, cousins and even akeson is mind boggling. just cause he could be in the nhl earlier doesn't mean hes a better prospect. say couturier doesn't make the team for another two years and holmstrom makes the team this year that in no way means holmstrom is the better prospect. i don't think anybody voted holmstrom over couturier in the 2nd spot but the same logic still applies to the lower spots. i don't know, thats just my opinion.

Akeson, Randford, and Cousins aren't exactly blue chip prospects. Sestito has potential and is closer to the NHL. Akeson, Ranford, and Cousins may have potential, but I don't think you sit there and say they will 100% be in the NHL one day. Akeson tore up the OHL last year but isn't he like 21? That's not really all that impressive. Same thing with Ranford, he didn't do quite as well as Akeson but he is also much older than most of the guys he's playing against. Cousins is a third rounder who is not very big and wasn't exactly a dominant force in the OHL. Not saying none of these guys will aount to anything, but Sestito has been a solid AHL player over the last few years and is poised to have a shot at the big club this year. Just because a guy scored a boatload of goals playing against kids (see: Ranford, Akeson) doesn't mean he is going to be anything special in the NHL. I hope they do, but I'd say Sestito has a better shot at being an NHL regular at this point.

Huh? Ranford played all last season as a 18 yr old... how is that older than most other players? For a 7th round pick, he lead the WHL in points for 75% of the season on one of the worse teams last year.

If Sestito's lucky, he will make it to the 3rd line in his career. And I love Holmstrom, but he shouldn't be anywhere near TOP prospects of the organization.

A very high number of players in the NHL were point per game players in Juniors and aren't more than 3rd/4th liners in the NHL, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. Dan Carcillo was PPG as a 17 year old. Arron Asham was more than PPG as an 18 year old. Max Talbot was pretty close to PPG as a 17 year old. And those are just the first three guys I googled to see. I am sure you can find a ton of 3rd/4th liners who were PPG players at 17/18. The guys who are the ones that have the 120 points in 55 games are the guys that have the super potential. PPG is good and I'm not saying Cousins isn't going to amount to anything, but Sestito has put up decent numbers in the AHL and is much closer to the NHL than Cousins. I'm not knocking the other guys, I'm just saying I'd call Sestito a better prospect at this point. Not necessarily player, but prospect.
Guys it just comes down to what criteria everyone is using for their rankings. NHL readiness is a factor, ceiling is a factor, size, speed etc are all factors. How you weigh those is where you vote.

Fair enough. Maybe I'm just a Sestito fanboy. I'm really hoping he takes Shelley's spot as the muscle but also can be a more complete player. I'd prefer Sestito over Rinaldo and Shelley every day of the week if the Flyers are going to use one as a 4th line enforcer type player (which my guess is they will).

I'd be somewhat surprised if Sesito isn't on the team. I can't see them risking him on waivers. Shelly would be a lot more likely to clear than Sesito.

I would even take it a step further and say that Shelley will clear on re-entry waivers too.
Two more years left on his contract, 35 years old, unable to play regular shifts, coming off a season with facial injury, not winning any memorable fights last year....and not that many teams are picking enforcers from the waiver wire by mid season.
