I personally have no interest in Hedman, but if we could get Connolly and Tampa's first round pick (so we can draft Brendan Gaunce) that's something I'd do.

Trading a cost-controlled RFA for a UFA's rights just seems bad from the outset.

If Wideman walks, he'll be looking to get paid. He's making 4.5m right now. Seems like he would wait a couple days to see what the market $ay$.

Also, has MG ever traded for the rights to a player prior to them becoming UFA? I remember hearing that he did negotiate with Micheal Ryder in such a way. Can't be sure.

As far as WAS is concerned: What about a deal involving Brouwer for Raymond? Now, before people jump at the chance to dump Raymond, remember that Brouwer is a 3rd liner. His stats suggest this. This year, he's on pace for 36 points, 17:06 ATOI, shooting 16%. That's a good year for him. His career high has been 40 points, which matches Raymond's worst year. Raymond has more skill, but Brouwer offers the size. Thoughts?

Assuming our offense comes up lame again in the playoffs I would seriously look at:

Edler, Booth, Schneider, 1 for Alexander Ovechkin.

Then push hard to sign Ryan Suter as a UFA, or move Keith Ballard up to the second pairing.

Oveckin's prima donna attitude would ruin this club. And his 9M cap hit would ruin our cap structure. We're better off trying to find a couple guys with good finish that could fit into our top 9 at 3-4.5M/year than OV.

I'm sure OV would leave his ego at the door, he'd have too.

What I worry about is paying 9+ million a year in cap to the 30-goal OV and not the 50-goal OV.

OV coming off a 50-goal season would never be on the market. This would be a risk, and the epitomy of buying low.

I would rather overpay for Nash...I'd rather take a chance Nash was under performing on a crap team than overpay for Ovechkin who was most likely over performing and couldn't handle the pressures of super stardom. If Ovechkin can't handle things in Washington he'd likely do worse in a hockey crazy market like Vancouver.

I don't know what's wrong with Ovechkin this season, but I don't think it has anything to do with pressure.

Ovechkin has the potential to be a generational talent, and up until last season he was widely considered to be the best or second best player in the world. If we can acquire someone with that talent it would be stupid not to. No one on our team has the potential to do what he can do.

Good article on Ovechkin.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...T2R_story.html

There is no doubt he is a talented guy, but there is no doubt there is a lot of question marks surrounding him. Personally I don't see him being the 50-60 goal scorer again and at $9.5m/year I wouldn't touch him, especially with all the other BS that comes attached. Not to mention the Caps would want a boatload of assets in return. No thanks.

What's the expected price tag on Jason Garrison this summer? Good hometown kid that can play both sides and has a nice shot on the pp. Would be a nice acquisition.

Sounds like he definitely needs a change of scenery.

The Caps won't want to trade him to another Eastern team, so we can eliminate half the league right there. Plus how many teams can afford a 9.5M player? I'm not even sure we can, but the potential to have a top 6 that includes Ovechkin, Kesler on one line and the Sedins on another has me drooling. If Ovechkin is being targetted to be shutdown, then the Sedins will have a field day eating up the other teams second unit. And if they shut down the Sedins, then Ovechkin is facing the second unit.

Could any team match up to us?

Edler, Schneider, Raymond, 1st round pick in 2012, 1st round pick in 2013.

As much as I would love Ovi, that defense is pretty bad.

Love that roster, but I don't think TB's 1st round pick would be enough.

Given the weak UFA class this year, probably ~5mil/yr for 3-5 years.

We kinda miss Raffi Torres on this team. The other team knows when a player like that is on the ice. Ideally I would want Jamie McGinn but he ain't leaving COL, so we should sign TOOTOO if the price is right.

Schneider Is a top Number 1 goalie on any team

Teams i thing will take a shot at.. Toronto, Tampa Bay and columbus, Could be a few more

I feel Schneids Is worth a very top prospect and a high first rounder

Anaheim's D needs to be restructured, Alberts could be a part of the transition. He's the type of player they target regardless. I could see him doing well there. Gordon is a contract dump by them and is a marginal 4th liner. It would be ideal to get the team's 3rd back, but I'm not sure Alberts carries that kind of value.

4th rndr (ANA) + Volpatti to BUF for Gragnani.

Perhaps MAG carries more value, but it seems fair. An offensive D that hasn't put it together at the NHL level. He'll be 25 soon, so I'm not sure if he improves significantly from where he is now, but he does have upside. Could a Gragnani+Ballard pairing work? I'm not sure, but it has the potential to make the team better so worth a shot. I think MAG is a devalued asset that is ready to be moved...

Not out of the realm of possibilities that Schneids could be given a shot. But yes I agree there would have to be some things that worked out for him

Chris Stewart is an RFA this summer, and St Louis may still be looking to upgrading there Left side D.

First ship Raymond out for a pick to who ever thinks they could need him.
Send Kevin Connauton and the pick acquired from Raymond trade.

Top 6 looks like
Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Kesler Stewart

Sign Chris Stewart 3 million per for 3 years? His down year will help get a better number for the team, but giving some term may help keep him.
