Vancouver - Buffalo

To Vancouver:
Brad Boyes

To Buffalo:
Taylor Ellington
Yann Sauve
4th round pick 2012

We are in need of a Top 6 Forward and by adding Boyes we can bolster our 2nd line and he is a perfect with Kesler. Boyes has good size, and has had 30 and 40 goal seasons. He probably won't have the same seasons like he did before, but if he does, it would be on a high-offense team like Vancouver.

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Sturm-Kesler-Boyes
Higgins-Malhotra-Samuelssson
Bitz-Lapierre-Hansen

Bieksa-Hamhuis
Edler-Salo
Ballard-Tanev

Luongo

-------

Thoughts?

Massive overpayment, at the moment Boyes would be lucky to fetch a 3rd rounder.

BUF would want more than he is worth. I'd give a 3rd maybe but they'd want more.

That would put us over the Cap, wouldn't it?

I don't want Boyes anyways, we could get someone better.

Buffalo added Boyes for a 2nd, although in this case his value might be up BECAUSE it's a contract year..

Buffalo will probably keep him regardless.

Ugh.

Brad Boyes? Remember that he's a $4 million player... and a massive risk if I ever saw one. 'Til this day, I still don't really know what Brad Boyes is because he's been all over the map.

I'd rather have Keith Ballard.

Only if we had a season-ending injury to two of Raymond/Higgins/Sturm/Samuelsson, then maybe we'd have to take the risk.

I'd say his value is up slightly; mainly due to a raising cap making his contract a bit more realistic for a one-dimensional scoring winger who tends to coast; also, ya the one-year left on the contract helps. The proposal isn't as totally wacked as might think though; Ellington is basically a dead contract...an ECHL guy who's career is most likely coming to an end. Sauve looked good in limited time last year, but he's still a question mark as well....and a low 4th is a low 4th.

I dunno, I might give up a 2nd rounder for Boyes or a lower-end prospect like Sauve.

i have abit of a crazy trade here:

to canucks : bogosian , wheeler , pavelec

to jets: loungo samuelson too to create cap space maybe ballard if we have too has good potential if he adjusts this season

questions: could wheeler produce good numbers with kesler?
would this be worth losing louie?
would bogosian fill erhoffs 50 points?
would we want pavelec
would pavelec be good for us??
i think louies huge contract would take alot of space but maybe not enough so maybe scratch pavelec off trade and sign legace which would give us bogosian and wheeler maybe 1st pick too?

1. Probably would produce better numbers than last year, but hardly will be a bright spot on that line.

2. I don't think so. As much as people bash Luongo, he's got us to game 7 in the SCF.

3. If we had to part with Luongo, he wouldn't be a terrible piece to get back, but he's just as unproven as Schneider is. Would not help us in the short term at all.

I don't know, this trade seems to set us back short term. Seems kind of odd to do as we just got to the Finals 3 months ago.

I'll add another... WPG.

Maybe the last team Lou would waive his NMC for.

Why are people even discussing trading our franchise goalie? It's like fans on the Penguins board discussing trading Malkin or Crosby. It's nonsensical.

Bobby Ryan

Here is my proposal

Alex Edler
Mason Raymond
1st
*possibly a prospect to sweeten the deal Shroeder/Jensen*

for

Bobby Ryan
Cam Fowler

I know in conference trades are rare, but I believe this helps address both teams needs.

Why Anaheim does this

Anaheim has no problem with offense. But they are thin on D. As of right now Edler is a massive upgrade over Fowler. This may change in a few years, but as of now, Edler is a MUCH better defenseman than Fowler. So Anaheim takes a downgrade on the wing by replacing Ryan with Raymond, but gets a rather significant boost on D with Alex Edler. They may value Fowler quite high, so we might have to throw in a first, or Shroeder and a 2nd to get it done.

Why Vancouver does this

Hammer/Bieksa is our top defensive pair going forward, despite Edler being our best dman. Edler ends up on our second pairing, usually going against other teams second liners. Now we are better with him, but the only way we part with him is for an upgrade on our second line. A young goal scorer to play alongside Kesler, giving us 2 dominant lines while maintaining out depth. This provides us that opportunity. We upgrade Raymond with Ryan, but we take a downgrade on D with Fowler.

Now I know that may not sound appealing, but Fowler had a pretty damn good year last year. Points wise anyways. Put up 40 in his rookie campaign. So while he is a downgrade in the moment, within 2 years this downgrade might even become close to a lateral move. A potential lateral move on D with a significant upgrade on our second line. Seems like a good trade in my books.

Even if Fowler never reaches his potential (though I think he will), a slight downgrade on D to get that young talented second liner to play with Kesler seems like a fair trade off imo. One I personally would take. Even going forward in the future, when the Sedins regress, we will have out top line set with Kes and Ryan. It's just a smart move all around in my books.

Thoughts? Would you do it? Does Anaheim do it? If not, what do we add to get it done?

ps I would be willing to go with a first and shroeder to get this deal done. But that's just me.

Why would they want Raymond? Edler is a solid piece, but Bobby Ryan and Cam Fowler are too valuable to move in that package... No way the Ducks would consider this...

Why are you guys trying to get everyone to hate this team even more ?

I don't see the Ducks getting rid of Ryan/Fowler for less than Kesler +

Raymond was regarded quite highly by a lot of GM's before last season. Gillis has said he is the most sought after Canuck. Granted he had an off year last year, due in part to injuries. But I still see him as a 25 goal scorer. So its a downgrade up front for anaheim to address their anemic D, and a downgrade on D for us to address our second line and our future. The first and prospect tilt it closer value wise imo.

I thought it was a decent proposal. Would have liked to put it on main boards to see how bad it got flamed, but cannot yet. Newbie restrictions. Judging by reactions here it's probably a good thing...

Vancouver 1st round picks are about as valuable as a high 2nd as the team easily projects to finish top 5 in the nhl (not saying that's a guarantee, but that's what any rational person would project).

What about something like

Edler
Raymond
*possibly a pick*

for

Ryan?

Is that closer value wise? I really didn't the value was that far off in initial proposal..... Oh well.

Even if the value is even there, the canucks shouldn't be trading their best young Dman for a forward this point.

Anaheim is thin on forward depth so no way do they trade Ryan. Aside from Getzlaf and Perry, their top 6 are terrible. Selanne will likely play his last season this year so they will not trade Ryan.

Also, it is more worthwhile for the Canucks to keep Edler and continue to develop him to become that #1 d that we so covet instead of trading him.
