How old will you be when Rick DiPietro's contract ends?

DP's contract expires in 2021 and was signed in 2006.

I was 16 when he signed it and will be 31 when it expires.

worst contract ever. Is there any sort of out for the Islanders if Dipietro never gets healthy?

If it expires at the end of the 2021 season, I'll be 49. If it expires at the end of the calendar year 2021, I'll be 50.

Oy. My back!

Depends on the Islanders / his insurance - not sure where to apply either due to how frequent his injuries have been and not knowing when they started.

I'll be 33. Damn, my 20's are over!

Yessir. 16 in September.

But, on topic, I still cannot grasp my mind around the fact that Isles' management thought it would be a smart idea to give this guy a 15 year deal.

What was going through their minds? Even when DiPietro was healthy, he wasn't a Lundqvist or Thomas level goaltender - he was more of an Ilya Bryzgalov level goaltender.

Same thing I though with the Bryzgalov-Luongo (although he's much better than DP/Bryzgalov ever were) contracts - yeah, it keeps the cap hit down, I understand that, but it becomes a MAJOR burden after a few seasons.

It depends on how long until he is bought out.

If not bought out and July 1 rolls around for his contract to expire, I will be 35. Yikes. Yes, at least a good fifth of a lifetime was wasted by the Isles on Dipietro, as opposed to like 1/8 or so with Yashin (who Wang is pals with and wants to bring back while still paying him for another bought out one that was done as a "favour." And people wonder why the Isles are in such trouble? No one can convince me Wang is anything but a lousy owner).

Contrary to popular belief, Milbury wasn't behind the DiPietro contract - Garth Snow had just taken over as GM, which gives a clear indication that that whole debacle was Wang's doing (and I'm not saying you said Milbury was the guy, I'm just linking my post off your thoughts on the Islander's management).

Prior to signing the deal, DiPietro had a year of 30-24-5 with a 3.02 goals-against average in 63 games, and his career totals were at 58-62-13 with a 2.85 GAA in 143 NHL games. Woof all around.

I'm not a fan of the long-term deals either. So much can happen in such a long period of time, and I guess that's why it really does take a owner who knows hockey to produce a fruitful product out on the ice.

31. Yikes. I never realised that it was 15 years. That's so much money to just piss away with nothing back in return.

I was 17 when he signed it in 2006, and I'll be 32 when it expires.

Of course, the world ends in 2012 so maybe they can clear up some cap space
